sad story. I know they kid was young, we all made stupid mistakes when young (we even make them now) but its hard to put full blame on the cops
The boy was playing with the gun on the playground at Cudell Recreation Center, pulling it from his pants and pointing it at people...When two Cleveland police officers arrived at the scene, a rookie officer saw the boy beneath a gazebo, picking up the gun and tucking it into his waistband. Police said the officer ordered him to raise his hands, but he raised his shirt instead — reaching for the gun.
hindsight, its easy to look back and know what could have been done differently but is anyone thinking of how this kid was raised? Parents have to accept some of the blame, although that probably wont happen.
If I put myself in the officers shoes, I get a call that someone is pulling a gun on people at the park. I show up and tell him to raise his hands and he reaches for a gun, there is little time to react with no knowledge of anything other than this person is pulling a gun.

Is the 911 dispatcher allowed to relay messages or thoughts from the caller?
If so, some blame needs to go there also, had the officers known that it was most likely a toy gun with the orange safety tip removed they might have approached less cautiously

Some of these guys/girls are too paranoid, afraid, and eager (to pull the trigger), to be police officers...

You're a cop, you have a gun pulled on a kid and he goes for his pocket and pulls out what appears to be a real gun and you say he's too paranoid, afraid or eager?

Put yourself in his shoes. He wants to see his family at the end of the day.

Hache - exactly what the fuck you said.. if I think someone is finna pull gun on me i fucking run, dodge whatever.. i can't just shoot someone even tho I'm licensed to carry, imagine the fucking commotion.. i don't care if these guys
run into this situation more often than the average person on the street.. then u should have more street savvy to know who is likely to kill you or not.. its total fucking bullshit.. and if the people of cleveland do not stand up for this kid then shame on them losers. makes no difference if the gun is real or not.. he was a 12 year old on a playground.. everyone knows these BB guns and airsoft guns look real..just cause he lifted his shirt? u blast ? total fucking outrage

Kid is just a kid, doesn't deserve to die.

Gun looked real, cop not at fault, he doesn't deserve to have to live with this the rest of his life. Shit like this will make a cop a hard ass douchebag going forward.

someone said the orange "fake" indicator was removed. Makes me think this kid was using it to scare/bully/rob people/kids. i was a stupid kid but at 12 I never had a cop point his gun at me and if they did I would know better than to do anything other than raise my hands

The "fake" indicator was removed. You cannot tell if the gun is fake or real. The cop was in a split second no win situation. I don't think I would of stood there and waited to find out if that gun was real or not, Or if this "kid" was going to shoot me or not.

Today we expect our policemen to be social workers, mind readers, and trick shot artists all rolled into one.

Let's get down to brass tacks. How much for the ap

When we were kids (mid 70's to early 80's) we would run around in full camo carrying bb guns shooting at each other. Adults would see us didn't look twice. Simpler times. Miss those days. The media and the internet and the PC world fuels this fear. Wish we could go back.
