j-man, i've heard that stone has repeated stated that he is not interested in being a field manager. he wants an front-office job or possibly an ownership interest in a team.

i agree...he'd make a great manager. he sure knows the game better than dusty baker.

ozzie guillen...best manager in chicago. who'd a thunk it?

Dusty... I use to take up for him til this season...It must be nice to be offered MLB managing jobs and turn them own...I would think anyone offered a managerial job in MLB would jump at it....Announcer gig has to be almost as cool though!

One other thing i do like about the Chicago group, I like the way they all rally around the city and team, I just don't like the way they call the game...I like Ron Santo , i don't know how he is to listen to but , that guy seems to bleed Cubs baseball...its as if he's still down there playing....I like that about the Cubs

The Orioles have pompous Jim Palmer still telling us how great he was 30 years ago, and how he couldn't get Greg Nettles out,lol.....Like we forgot?.... Nettles killed Palmer! But I don't get the impression from Big Jim that he cares one way or the other if the O's win or lose....When we had Brooks calling the games it felt different...

We had what the Cubs still have, and I do miss that... I don't even know what its like to be in a Pennant Race anymore, to feel from a fans point of view for his hometown team, that's what Baltimore lost along the way!

all the books are laughing their asses off as they count up all those "cubs to win the world series" tickets they wrote at 10-1 or less!

that team had the most talent in the nl. no excuse for not making the playoffs. none. and don't talk to me about injuries. the whole team was back for september and they pulled a greg norman with 10 games to go. gotta blame dusty. that's why they brought him here and paid him all that money. to win.

he cost them last year and he cost them this year. any other manager in the national league has the talent on this cubs team and they are deciding whether to start prior or zambrano tomorrow.

instead, dusty talks about back-to-back winning seasons and how steve stone was mean to him.

brutal.

i have to disagree. i am not a cub fan but i think stone is the best color man in the business. he knows the game better than the people calling the shots on the field and he calls a spade a spade. he is honest, knowledgable, has a good sense of humor and keeps it entertaining.

its the cubs management and players who look like fools...not steve stone

i agree Blue, Stone is the best in the game. It amazes me he isn't a manager somewhere. A lot of guys go from the booth to the dugout, wonder why Stoney hasn't??????

Well said Blue....I think the Cubs could use a leadoff hitter though, too many all or nothing types...but i agree they were loaded ...And at the end of the year they were in the driver seat, in prime position, even after all the injuries, it was their playoff spot to lose...Which they did...

Are you a Cubs fan or not? I think deep down you like the Cubs :neenee:

i like a few of the cubs players. i like ramirez and patterson. i was a big fan of sandberg. but, this team is unlikeable. sosa blows and he thinks he's bonds...so he acts like him. alou is a good player but he is dennis rodman in a cubs uniform. he cannot control himself and blames the ump every single time he strikesout...which was a lot during the last 10 games. baker is so overrated its hilarious.

this whole thing with the cubs crying about the announcers as they pissed the post-season away is absolutely pathetic. how even the most die hard cub fan can not slam them for that is beyond me.

LOL- I could not believe when I heard Merker called the booth during the game, that had to take the cake!

Alou had a great year forhim...Alou has the worst mechanics of any decent hitter, but he does get it done...When he is going bad he looks horrible though...Ugly swing!

Steve Stone may be the most insightful color man on tv. His uncanny knack for predicting what will happen before it does happen is almost eery. Very bright and funny man. If you can't appreciate his delivery, shame on you.

The Cubs are a jagoff organization. The announcers this year have been critical at times of the team and management and rightly so. Dusty Baker is a lousy manager. Plain and simple. Kerry Wood is the most overated pitcher in baseball and then they went out and got Nomar Garciaparra; an average player at best. The bullpen is horrendous and then you mix in Sammy Sosa disappearing in key moments and I'm surprised the Cubs hung in there as long as they did.

I'm glad they did their laundry down the stretch.
