Well this is going to sound simplistic because it is.

First piece of advice to you, is you took the time to block your name and most of your address but weren't so bright to leave your full account number there. The aba of all chase banks is 100100024 plus that would be readily available on the internet if they didn't know it. So do yourself a favor and get rid of your account number before you have more runs on your account.

If the person took a picture and deposited it via there phone, they should have some information as to what the phone number it came from through their app. At the same time a SAR should have been filled out since it was a transaction for over $10K . I would definitely ask about this and if they say it wasn't done, ask why not as it would be a violation on their end. Every 10K deposit transaction must have a SAR completed.

Now as far as your check, come on, that's easy. Anyone that had access to that check could have had another check made easily. Software is readily available and even five year olds can do this.

So the bottom line for you is this: Who had access to the check? Three entities we know of for certain. You, the man you mention and the bank. Forget your lifestyle. It was done by either someone you know, or someone who had access to wherever he keeps the information stored.

If I were you, I'd stop talking to him for now and make a call to the police and get them involved. Bottom line is you are going to need them sooner or later, time to make the call and not sit on it. Even if you get your money back, this doesn't make it right. Someone needs to pay for intruding on you and your life. I would also close this account and get a new account number. This way if it happens to be someone else than him they can't tap it again later when the smoke clears. The bank should've already done this or suggested this to you.

That's not my account number - it is the routing number for chase - I crossed out my account number - not that it matters as Chase assigned me a new account number - the guy says he has a machine at his office where he deposits all his checks so he doesnt have to go to the bank (something like the phone app I guess) - said he must have the original check because he saves them in in a file - I gonna go to the police department tomorrow but I dont want to just file a report - I want to speak to an expert in this stuff - almost certain this guy is involved - he gave the check to people that know how to do this - who knows

Not all deposits > $ 10,000 have to be reported to the IRS. Check deposits only have to be reported if it appears "suspicious".

Cash deposits / purchases of $ 10,000 or more have to be reported.
