That's one way to look at it, or if you have no life and nothing to do, then you can waste the time cleaning the old ashes, putting new charcoal in and then waiting for the coals to heat up. If you use your grill on average 5 or 6 times per week in the Summer, then that's every bit of 3 hrs. wasted week after week after week.Basically if your lazy and cant wait 15-20 minutes for your coals to get hot to eat better tasting food. Then use gas.

Its called getting off the rx for 30 minutes per day and having a family life.
If you plan to use your BBQ to make dinner a few nights a week; gas it is.
If you plan on BBQ a few times a summer for a family party then go charcoal.
i use gas for burgers, sausage, steaks
charcoal for ribs and chicken
YupI have a smoker that can double as a charcoal grill (Weber Smoky Mountain) and a Weber gas grill. Charcoal imparts a smokier flavor and of course the smoker gets it really smoky.
The steaks I grill don't need any more flavor so I use my gas grill. I love to smoke ribs and poultry. Just charcoal for burgers.
