Basically if your lazy and cant wait 15-20 minutes for your coals to get hot to eat better tasting food. Then use gas.

That's one way to look at it, or if you have no life and nothing to do, then you can waste the time cleaning the old ashes, putting new charcoal in and then waiting for the coals to heat up. If you use your grill on average 5 or 6 times per week in the Summer, then that's every bit of 3 hrs. wasted week after week after week.

I have both......charcoal will always taste better, but gas is so much faster.

When I was growing up, we always had charcoal. Its a preference on the person/people cooking & eating.

Its called getting off the rx for 30 minutes per day and having a family life.

I hear ya, but some people have "jobs" that may or may not have exact set hours. Some of these very same people may need to come right home from work (sometimes stopping first at a grocery store), and feed thier hungry family at a reasonable hour.

I'm willing to bet that most of these same people aren't wasting time at The RX during that precise time....just sayin.....

If you plan to use your BBQ to make dinner a few nights a week; gas it is.
If you plan on BBQ a few times a summer for a family party then go charcoal.

Nah I grill 3-4 nights a week and always use charcoal.

Not sure if you guys are rubbing 2 sticks together to light it or what, but it's not exactly a major time investment. 20 seconds to start the grill, and do it 20 minutes before you're ready to cook...like pre-heating an oven. Not that big of a deal.

I have a smoker that can double as a charcoal grill (Weber Smoky Mountain) and a Weber gas grill. Charcoal imparts a smokier flavor and of course the smoker gets it really smoky.

The steaks I grill don't need any more flavor so I use my gas grill. I love to smoke ribs and poultry. Just charcoal for burgers.

I'm torn. I need a new grill this summer....

This past year was the first year I used Charcoal... but maintenance guys clean the grill..
That quick light stuff is a game changer..

they sell grills that can do both? I need to look into that... Whatever I decide it will probably be a built in as I plan to build a massive deck in the back yard this year.. and If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^The Lowe's Duo, which offers both gas and charcoal cooking, would be a great grill for versatility but we found it offers unremarkable grilling performance even at its relatively inexpensive price point, and it failed to cook steak or chicken particularly well. On the upside, it's nicely stocked with extras: side burner, warming rack, tool holder, thermometer, and good instructions are all provided. lowes.com.
