The Feds are there to protect Federal property. Pretty simple. The governor and mayor aren't keeping control and there are threats against Federal buildings. The Feds have the authority to do whatever it takes to protect those buildings. As far as the Navy veteran, when you see things turning towards a riot, it a good idea to leave the area.
