What's going on with Elder? He's fallen off a ledge his last two starts.
Baseball season is too long. I vote to end season middle of September, Week 2 of NFL Football. 150 Game season and let Playoffs begin. As far as who the CY winner is it is easy, who has the best ERA... All pitchers have 4-5 days to rewind and a fix, it's all mental and agree 100% with Joey Votto...

"Those stretches where you don't score, that's a major league season," Votto said. "We're going to keep plugging away. This is not a clubhouse where guys think about that sort of stuff. Just come out and play with joy and play with intensity and play to win."

Elder shutting down Brewers bats thru 3 lets watch what happens... Makes him a candidate. Braves are going to postseason so he can be considered..... IMO... Watch Reds Abbott Monday in Chicago....

He is good but I feel he is overhyped due to his high strikeout rate. How many guys have won the Cy Young with a 3.50+ ERA?

That said, looking at the other contenders, you can find pluses and minuses with all of them.

Snell has been lights out for a few months but was awful early on and not sure a guy on a bad team deserves to win.

Should be an interesting race, i think it will be pretty close between Strider, Snell, Gallen and Steele.

Steele might have taken the lead in a close race with his outing today.

8 IP, 2 hits, no runs, 2 BB, 12 Ks

16-3 with a 2.55 ERA on a surging team.

I can't see Strider winning with an ERA of a full run more than Steele and Snell.

Going into today.
Blake Snell was the favorite -230
2nd...Strider +300
3rd...Steele +500
Both pitchers are better than Snell.
I don't get it.

I'm surprised Snell is that big of a favorite but his numbers are arguably better than both if you sift through them.

155 IP, 105 hits, 201 Ks, 2.50 ERA

I just looked on betonline and Steele is +375 now, that seems like pretty good value. I might have to throw a little on him.

Still think Strider has no business winning this award with an ERA of a full run higher than both Snell and Steele...just my opinion of course.

Steele has without a doubt been the best pitcher but I guess with the Braves being the best team it is something. If award was given now I can't see how it isn't Steele. But it is not given now.

I looked a few hours ago and Steele was +375...damnit, I should have placed the bet then, hard to now with the odds getting halved.

Snell is 12-9...2.50 era
Steele is 16-3...2.55 era
Cubs are a wild card team at the moment
Padres out of the playoffs

Why is Snell the favorite?

Agree with that for the most part but if you dig deeper, Snell has a way higher strikeout/inning rate and way fewer hits/inning. That said, Snell has 89 walks in 155 innings.

Steele is averaging about 1 K/inning and about 1 hit/inning.

Being on a playoff team vs on an awful underachieving team should absolutely play a factor though.

Elder not gonna win but he’s had a hell of a season .
Had a horrible 3 or 4 start run right after the all star break to end his chances but has since turned it back around and had one hell of a season
