Can a university expel students because they are racist?

Your right Coach. This might just be the beginning of the expulsions. But Acebb is right about the first Amendment right of free speech coming into this. I think it's going to end up clashing with the University Code of Conduct the students sign when entering school. And it prohibits this sort of thing. So it could end up in the courts before it's all over unless Boren decides not to pursue it any further. But he acted pretty mad over the whole thing yesterday. And I've never seen him that pissed off.

Why no outrage about zero white running backs but the country will yell racism at the lack of black quarterbacks although it has been proven more fail than succeed. Country goes crazy over lack of black coaches yet more fail than succeed.

I once saw a black girl, who was a friend of a friend, from Bethune Cookman (Or FAMU) wearing a shirt that said...

"The Blacker the college, the more the knowledge"

That sounds pretty racist to me...

Do the people commenting understand OU is a public university? I know Nick doesn't, but anyone else reading may want to understand that and consider the ramifications.

Racist speech is constitutionally protected. There is case law on this and it doesn't support the OU President.

I hope these students sue OU and the President loses his job over this.

And if Im wrong, I will admit it, but there are definite exceptions to freedom of speech. It will be fun if these idiots go ahead and sue

Have you had any black friends ever? Or you just have bad experiences with black people? I know a lot of black people who are noble, educated and will not think twice about helping someone.

Don't get me wrong, I hate thugs, don't matter the race.

I believe he hate Anything not WHITE, "Pure" White that is...

I think you get the picture

I would almost rather them do nothing to these students. School is about learning, learning who you are, and how to cope with your actions. I say don't dismiss them, but let them return to class and sit next to the 250 pound black football players they buddy up with on game day. I would LOVE to hear them explain why they wanted to hang all of the blacks. Facing the repercussions of your actions can be much harder than being punished by just leaving a school and never looking back.

Totally Agree with this. Boren did them a favor, but he likely did legally overstep his bounds. If the punks sue, he should reverse course, let them back in school, and let them suffer the consequences of their actions.

If this were true, Blacks wouldn't be allowed on any campus. They are the most racist group there is.

The frat would of been ok if they changed the black part in the chant with white cops.
They might have even got on TV if they started a riot and they might have had the president,
Holder, and the Gov. of Missouri on their side.

You don't seem to understand you are wrong. You citing these vague "exceptions" have nothing to do with this matter. Every court, not some, all, that has looked at this issue has said the same thing.

[h=1]ACLU of Oklahoma:t is difficult to imagine a situation in which a court would side with the [University of Oklahoma] on this matter’[/h]

Oh and the Fraternity has hired a legal team and is looking at suing.
