Even drunk and a drunk friend daring you---this kid is borderline mentally challenged. Maybe was under the influence of strong drugs.

He jumped off a cruise liner in the middle of the ocean. Might as well jumped off a 30 story building.

RIP for him, but I feel more sorry for his family.

Weird

This is the first that I am hearing of this story.

Stinks as this could have happened to any of us being drunk on a dare at that age

The way things are today it makes you wonder if a person that dared him could be held accountable the same way they do if someone entices another to commit suicide

Or maybe it was a girl he liked that dared him or offered him something in exchange if he did it

Who knows

But 99% chance he and the others were drunk

It's crazy because it's always been one of my wildest & far-fetched fears on a boat, a ship, or an airplane if it went down in the ocean

While floating in a life vest, worrying about whether or not being rescued would not be my concern

I would just be scared to death about when something was going to come up from under me in the water so long

reading what you wrote makes me think of those USF football players getting stranded 10-20 years ago.

I'm sure someone can find a link. Real Sports on HBO did a good feature on it

What? No.

They didn't dare him to jump off the top of the slide on a jungle gym.

They dared him to jump off a cruise liner(at night of all things) into the Atlantic Ocean.

It would take A LOT more than alcohol.

I don't remember that

What happened to them?
off the top of my head...

There were 4 football players on a small boat. It either crashed or tipped and they were all overboard. They held on to a raft for hours.

I think only 1 survived.

Please dont quote me 100% on this but that is the jist of the story.

just sent a link but didnt read it. Check out HBO real sports to what the 15 or 20 min clip. Was really good and really sad

I have a friend who did it once (we were getting close to shore)

When i was younger, we would meet friends on the ship who would tell us that they didnt want to get an outside balcony room in fear they may want to jump off "for thrills"

I aint wired like that

Ugh. Can't get on board here....probably some lawyer will jump on board over some law but this is idiotic on its face.

If I get in an argument and tell someone to go "kill themselves" and they do---its my fault?

Like I said probably there is some law that whomever dared him can be held liable. But seriously wtf. He jumped from a cruiser liner into the dark Atlantic Ocean. Nobody pushed him nor threatened him. He did it because he was an idiot in that moment and it cost him more than it should have...

Yep.

Though like I said I don't agree with it.

This is what personal responsibility looks like in my opinion.

He jumped because he wanted to jump. It was his decision. He wasn't under any sort of distress that I saw.

Now if a buddy supplied him with drugs and than dared him---you got something there

I hope this served as a lesson to all our youth today.

I would hope our youth already knows not to jump off a cruise liner. ;)
