FREE Pick Europa League 1,5 hrs to start!
EL, 21:05 CET, Atalanta – Apollon, Atalanta to win HT, odds +185 and >, stake 6/10
This pick is based on the specific approach taken often by Atalanta’s coach Gasperini when he wants to make a result, especially at home. I think his plan is definitely to make 3 pts here and hoping to do the same away il Lmasol in order to secure next stage and focus on Serie A as soon as possible, as the games between Lyon and Everton almost certainly will through out 1 of these teams. In many games this and last season Atalanta started the game with great intensity, high pressing and lot of running trying to encircle and “kill” the opponents as fast as possible – i.e. the game against Everton but also many games in Serie A, like the last one against Samp, where Atalanta were clearly the better team in the first half. Against this modest Cyprus team which is expected to field defensive formation I don’t see any other game plan for Atalanta in front of their fans at Mapei Stadium, which again will come in numbers to support them as the game is starting @ 21:00 Italian time, so more fans would be able to make the 2 hour trip to the stadium. I am sure Atalanta will try to score as soon as possible, before the guests have the time to settle in the game. Clearly after the two draws produced by Apollon in the group there should be no underestimation, Atalanta don’t snub EL like some other teams, there’s great enthusiasm in the club, they want to secure place in the knock-out stage and this is a must win game for them. The only problem is that captain Gomez is uncertain to start as he picked small injury in the last game. It will be clear only after the afternoon training session today but almost certainly he will be on the bench. With him as possible starter odds will perhaps go down a bit, otherwise if he is outside the starting lineup they might go very slightly up. Against stronger team I probably would not go for this line, but question is could Atalanta’s other offensive players like Petagna, Ilicic, Kurtic etc. be able to break Apollon fast? Imo answer is absolutely yes. GL!
