This is true - but if you are trying to build muscle you are not going to be nearly as strong during your workout if you just did cardio - but your heart rate should remain elevated throughout your lifting session if you just did cardio.
And building muscle is the key at the end! :)

I would substitute green tea for the diet coke - I just started taking it pre-workout a few months ago and am hooked. Tastes good, is healthy, increases metabolic rate, and gives you that caffeine lift.

I separate my cardio and strength training. Usually do cardio in the morning and weights in the evening. Hard to give maximum effort when lifting after running 3 miles (and vice versa).

Tetley has a new Iced Green Tea. It's not overly-sweet and is really refreshing.

I don't know what benefits caffeine has on physical exercise but I do know its on the doping list over a certain amount so ... go figure
It definitely raises your level of alertness and is used in many energy drinks for this particular purpose.
Everything in moderation and listen to your body is the best advise I can give in regards to anything you do.

caffiene is definatley a no-no before a weight workout. you burn way too much energy early and you dont get the pump your going for. muscles dont react very well to caffiene is what my trainer buddies tell me. plus you will feel more sluggish and tired toward the end of the workout when you should be getting your best muscle reactions.
