Seeing a lot of "Pens are better than the Caps..." sentiment, so I'll just offer some info for you. These are not predictions.
Goals for: Pens 1st, Caps 3rd
Goals against: Caps 1st, Pens 17th
Power play: Tied for 3rd
PK: Caps 7th, Pens 20th
- Caps are highest remaining possession team at 3rd, Pens at 17th
- Pens were 3-5-2 vs playoff teams last 25 games, outscored 26-20 in regulation.
- Caps were 10-5-1 last 25 vs. playoff teams outscoring them 42-38 (an 0-4 Cali trip uglied that one up good)
- Caps finished 8-2, Pens finished 4-6
- Leafs were a tougher match up for the Caps and could be argued playing as well if not better than Pens going into playoffs
Pens disposed of Jackets pretty handily though they were badly out shot which is not a good sign for them. Jackets did not close out the season well and were certainly an easier team for the Pens to play than the Leafs were for the Caps.
- Leafs were 4-4-4 vs playoff teams last 25, 32gf/32ga in regulation over last 25
- CBJ was 3-6-2 and outscored 27-21 vs. playoff teams and came in losing 8 of their last 12 while Toronto had won 8 of their last 12.
- Toronto was 2nd highest scoring team after the break and CBJ was 19th
- Toronto had higher possession metrics than Pens or Blue Jackets from the break and throughout the year.
Between these two teams, obviously it all goes out the window, especially in the playoffs.
- Pens are 8-1 all time
- Caps have won the first game 8 times
- Caps have held 2-0 or 3-1 leads 4 times and lost all four.
- Caps won the first game last year and lost the next three.
- Pens are defending champs.
- Pens have Crosby and Malkin and Kessel
May have a pick but the stress of watching it will probably be enough for me
GL to all.
