Detroit?

Can you please explain any of that logic to me?

They had the worst defense in the league last year and they have one of the top 5 worst head coaches. Their offense will have to be awsome just for them to have a chance at winning games.

I think Car/NO are very interesting teams this year, but I still don't think the saints d is there yet. Their LCB David is toast.

I strongly believe that Detroit will be a 7 win if not even team this year. I see them as browns of last year in the respect of being undervalued in the early season.

Now to your question.....
you are 100% right in terms of a nothing for defense last year. Keep in mind that they were most likely one of the youngest teams on defense as well. Last year they were under Joe Barry with a new system that is not very easy to learn (think tampa bay) I really believe they will be better acclimated with his system after a year and will get incrementally better. Yes, you have no big names on d but you have a bunch of guys that will try to make a name for themselves in the league. I just feel that Detroit will make money for me not necessarily win.

According to watching the preseason games (I know, Pre) their defense has really adjusted. Or at least stepped up in the NEED-TO situations! Their offense is not that terrible... they were able to execute. The first few games will tell us if they'll be able to come full circle or not--I have high hopes for them even though I haven't liked the Lions since Barry.

What games do you like them in?

Their first 6 games aren't bad, they could go 2-1 to start out the year with @ATL, GB, @ SF. They follow it up with BYE, Chi, @ Minn. Do you see them any better than 3-2? I think that is optimistic, 2-3 is much more likely.

Take a look at after Week 7...
@ Hou
Wash
@ Chi
Jax
@ Car
TB
Tenn
Minn
@ Indy
NO
@ GB

They "could" go 1-10, 2-9, or 3-8 in that stretch. @ Chi in week 9 is probably their best bet for a win, maybe beating Minny at home in week 14? Washington in week 8?

My point is that the later part of their schedule is brutal. The NFCN plays the NFCS ( 2nd best in NFC) and the AFCS ( best in afc).

The Lions D sucks ( I agree the secondary should be better), but the offense could take a step back without Martz throwing the ball. They could be more balanced and better too, but the Lions are always next years "sleeper team" with those receivers. I don't expect much from them, and especially with that schedule.

I peg them about 5-11 or 4-12.

I don't think they would win at Houston... MAYBE hosting Jason Campbell and the Peter Brady at coach, @ Chicago is probably their easiest bet, @ CAR I highly doubt, and hosting Tenn I don't think so.

I think everyone is giving minn more credit than they deserve. Against a pass happy team like detroit it will be close. Just remember that detoit has one of if not the tallest recieving corp outside of that freak in jax. Look for them to squeeze out victories on teams that lack depth and height in the backfield. I cannot give you predictions because as everyone knows injuries, suspensions, ect... can dismantle any team in the NFL. BEst of luck C-Gold. BTW, I'm in MO county.

I think the whole tall WR's vs shorter DB's has been played out much the same way that speed was.

People thought if you just lined up 4WRs that run 4.3's you could have a dominant wr core. That isn't the way the position is played. Look at guys like quan bolding and larry fitz in arizona. Do you realize they have probably the slowest WR core in the league ( and one of the best)?

Detroit had the same tall receivers last year when they fell apart in the second half of the year.

If Gus Ferotte takes over and plays alright, minnesota could be good, but that dawg at quarterback needs to be put down because jackson sucks and will cost that team wins.
