Sure.

Think Ty Law and Assante Samuel, proven Patriot playmakers at that position. Then think the same coach and GM. Connect the dots.

They need somebody back there. I'm just guessing that it will be one of these two or another proven veteran. The Pats like to have an older veteran to teach the younger guys.

They have the same GM now as when Ty Law and Assante were on the team?

I'm not sure about that

I am. Bill Bellichik.

They simply won't pay at that position.

Anyway good luck.

Just my opinion predicated on Bellichik's history.

Revis will take the first deal that offers him in the $25-$30M guaranteed range. he still has another 2-3 solid years left in him and will look a lot better next year playing man coverage.

Bucs release CB Darrelle Revis

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have parted ways with cornerback Darrelle Revis, releasing the five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Wednesday after being unable to trade him and his $16 million salary.

The move saved the Bucs a $1.5 million bonus that Revis would have been due if he remained on the roster. It also freed additional space under the salary cap, which the team intends to use to continue an overhaul of the roster under new coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Licht.
Revis was obtained in a pre-draft trade from the New York Jets last spring, a deal that cost the Bucs a first-round pick in 2013 and a fourth-rounder this year. If Revis had remained on Tampa Bay's roster at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday, he would have been due the bonus, and the 2014 pick the Bucs sent to the Jets would have become a third-rounder.
The Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders had talked to Tampa Bay about a possible trade for Revis, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, confirming multiple reports.
"We would like to thank Darrelle for his time and effort with our organization last year," Licht said in a statement. "Darrelle showed a lot of heart last year as he worked extremely hard to get himself back on the field following his knee injury sustained the previous season.

"We have specific ideas regarding the best way to build this defense and, while you never like to lose a good player, we believe this is in the best interests of our team moving forward. Darrelle was a true professional here in Tampa Bay and we wish him continued success in his career."
Revis was recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee when he joined the Bucs and was given a six-year, $96 million contract. Despite not being 100 percent physically, he appeared in all 16 games and was selected to play in the Pro Bowl, where he had two interceptions, a sack and two forced fumbles. Revis had 50 tackles, two interceptions and 11 passes defended in his one season with Tampa Bay.
The two-time All-Pro's release came less than an hour after the Bucs confirmed Josh McCown had agreed to terms on a two-year contract, a move that reunites the free-agent quarterback with Smith.
Smith and Licht were hired in January and are using free agency to reshape the roster.
In addition to signing McCown, the Bucs have landed defensive end Michael Johnson, cornerback Alterraun Verner, defensive tackle Clinton McDonald and tight end Brandon Myers. Those four players signed on Tuesday, the first day this offseason that a team could complete free-agent deals.

I'd like to see the pats get Revis but Belichick rigid organizational philosophy probably means they won't pay top dollar for a CB.

Brady has 2-3 years left tops, Pats should just go for the gusto while they still can.

hmm, maybe they will?

A member of free agent Darrelle Revis' camp predicts to the New York Daily News that Revis signing with the Patriots is "going to happen."

"It's going to happen," the anonymous camp member predicted.

Correct. No one will now pay him 16 mill. But my point is that the Pats won't pay him half of that and will therefore never be a realistic contender for his services. Fantasy rumor.

Did you hear the news?

Don't tell the Pats GM

What Mich said wasn't really proven wrong though. If Revis really just took 1yr 12mill that is a major discount to what other teams would've given him in guaranteed money. Not like NE ponied up for him...

Maybe he made so much from the Jets and Buccs that he wanted to just win since he probably only has a few more elite years left.

That's fine.

He spent 2 hours telling me how wrong I was last night when all I was saying is that the Pats had a chance of signing him. He even changed who the GM was 10 years ago.

I kinda figured I was gonna hear from you in this thread and I kinda figured what side you were gonna come down on.

Is the 2hrs in another thread or something? I just read the first page and it was just a quick back and forth. I hadn't read that when I just posted though so wasn't really commenting on any of that.

When I think 2hrs I think some monster enfuego thread where he debates some semantics and moves the goal posts about 12 times over 10 pages, lol.

Anyway Mike, was just saying Mich wasn't necessarily wrong in saying NE wouldn't pay revis fair market value. Revis taking the 1yr deal was a bit of a surprise given his recent contract dealings/ability to strike rich with other teams.

I think we can all agree it is definitely a power move and I'd take Revis over Talib anyday given Talib's durability alone.

lol just about the pay part.

You were right about NE making a push for Revis w/ Talib gone.

I could see Steve Smith being next since it looks like Edelman is gone.

Wheres he going ? Haven't heard any possibilities with Julian yet.

no clue but he is testing the market so I'd think he is gone. Seems like NE just views him as a system player and doesn't wanna give him much.

If he strikes out in FA then I guess he could go back to them but that seems like it never happens in the NFL.

Pats gave him an offer but also said he can test the market. What do you think about getting a player like S.Holmes ? Need some kind of deep threat.

Why do people think he is overrated? When he was with the Jets he was arguably the best defensive player in all of football. Not his fault Schiano was his coach.

Conventional wisdom is that Holmes is too short.

I agree though, he is an upgrade over what the Patriots have now.
