The story is plain as day.........Those 2 guys lived in the woods for 21 days.....It turned out that they had no plan.......Being only 40 miles from the prison is not a plan.
After the way they got out, maybe he's so pissed they didn't have a better plan afterwards ... better off just doing it yourself ( offing himself )

Oh its immeasurably worse than that. They broke out of a prison that no one has broken out of since it was built in 1884 (or at least thats what the News said) then they apparently just wandered around in the woods for 21 days because they didn't have a plan beyond the gal picking them up outside the prison.
I figure Matt wasa ready to go, day after his birthday prolly exhausted and no longer able to deal with the incomprehensible stupidity of not having a Plan B past the gal picking them up and he said to himself "Its Time."
Why else would he go shooting a gun at a TrailerVan or whatever the hell it was....that alerted the fuzz to his location.
I'll bet that "not answering" when the cops asked him to put down the shotgun was just a final somber look from his eyes that didn't need words to be understood....

Being 40 miles (or 20 miles whatever itwas) from the prison after this period of time is proof positive that they had no plan, not to mention firing a gun at a vehicle or whatever that was about. With the headstart they had even an an only slightly good plan would have seen them a hell of a lot father away than they were in 21 days.
when your in jail..noone bothers to keep in contact with ya.. the longer you're in you're lucky if anyone other than your own mother bothers with you..i never ever thought there was a chance they had anyone on the outside willing to help.. trekking to canada and reloading at hunting cabins wasn't that bad of a plan, they were moving at night which wasn't a bad plan either..not sure why they only got as far as they did but could be that they were surrounded in which case a hostage situation / carjacking was their only move and Ricky Matton was attempting that when caught

they would've had time to go her house, kill hubby, steal all his weapons and then take the dumb bitch as a hostage the entire time.. sometimes you don't have the luxury of planB.. that woulda been one helluva run if pig-woman would've kept her word.. really fucking hard to come up with a solid plan A let alone a solid B from inside Clinton.. heading strait to cabins that people leave guns at was what i would've done also.. 1st and foremost they needed guns, needed it like oxygen.. those retards in that countryside were all armed so none was even scared..dudes were driving campers deep into the search area after having to pass thru a checkpoint , i would've stayed home.. Hopefully somehow the story gets told, from the remaining alive guy's own telling. I seriously suspect though any Media tries to pull this off and they end up sharing a cell with the Plump Betrayer of Men.
On multiple charges. Maybe cops can't do that to the Media though? Per our Constitution. As if that really stops The Man anymore anyways lol.
