If the guy didn't come out of the Pac 10 Rail usually thinks he is worthless. At least Brady is a Californian, you think he would cut him some slack but this certainly isn't something we haven't heard from Rail before.

I think more to the point on the Dolphins isn't so much Williams as it is they have a messy QB situation, with Feeley looking like the guy they expect to be starter. Think about that one, the Eagles third stringer as the Miami starter.

I can't blame Ricky that much, lets face it if you had the money he has after even just 5 years of playing, you could retire easily. The only guys that can't do it are pro athletes because of the money they spend. If the guy has a decent advisor and has put some money aside, I figure he has to have at least somewhere around $10 million in net worth. The guy probably just said I don't care to make more money, don't need it, and hell with working. We should all be so lucky. And if it doesn't go as he thinks it will, he can always get a job in the league somewhere in a year or two with a fat contract.

Railbird, To say Peyton Manning(Colts) is a "horrendous" QB has me speechless. Go bet some more Dolphins Over 9½. Its +190 now.

chuck sims,

sure, your right about Payton, but the Colts are no longer in the same division as Miami or New England. Just in case anyone besides railbird forgot.

Mr. Smith, I see now, thanks for the praise. Funny thing about the story is I was working on other news for the Rx. Daily Reporter when I heard the commentator on ESPN News talking about Williams on TV in the background. I said hey did he just say retire? That got my attention so I made a post.

wil.

Wildbill,

no , news from Miami is that A.J. Feeley has looked terrible so far. Jay Fiedler is a lock to be Miami's starter. They got Feeley to compete, but he has looked so bad that not only is he no competion to Fiedler, he may not beat out Sage Rosenfels for the back-up job.

The NFL is the one sport I can cap and win. I know my stuff. Fiedler will be run out there again. Good luck to him with a poor offensive line and no Ricky Williams

Jets, Pats, Bills, Colts all have horendous qbs. Pats under is also a lock.

Outside of Bledsoe, Feely or Fiedler wouldn't start on any of these teams. And Fiedler had the benefit of a far better running game than the Jets or NE.

hammer away on under 9 +110

Miami needs a miracle if Ricky retires to win 8 games.

They have absolutely no replacement for him. Zippo. If he changes his mind, your bet would be 50/50 against a fair line. If he retires Miami is in deep sh*t.

Mr. Liesure, I would guestamate a half a season win to be worth around 90 cents max. What you have to decide is whether you want to lay the juice (over -200 now) for under 9.5 which make 9 wins by Miami a winner for you. Under 9 +110 seems like a decent play to me, just remember Miami can only win 8 times for you to win that bet. IMO the under 9 +110 is a better play than under 9.5 -205 (or so).

Best of luck, wil.

Just woke up on the couch ....and heard ESPN ....Yes, I think a drug test was probably failed and he is "sitting a year out". Who knows ? Strange guy, he might float to Jamaica and smoke it up. Going to bed. Later.

Rail, as much as I respect your sharpness, I think the loss of Ricky Williams will have a BIG impact on the Dolphins. They were built as a ball control, low scoring defensive team. Now, they are going to be forced to open up the passing game to score points, relying on an iffy qb situation with two should-be backups, a green lousy pass protecting OL, and a wr group whose best player, Boston, is as much of a headcase as Ricky. Travis Minor and Rob Konrad are specialists and not the everydown back Ricky was.

This is a big shocker and will have as much of an impact as Pennington going down for the Jets last season or Vick going down for the Falcons. In an improved division, it will be a huge stretch for the Fins to finish better than 8-8, esp. with the unimaginative Wannstadt at the helm. The timing could not have been worse as the Fins could have got a similar back, Eddie George, on the free agency market a week ago had Ricky not waited until camp to drop his bomb. Now, there are no big free agent backs left, absent a trade.

I took under 9 +110 at Bodog. I also took NE -175 to win the AFC East as the Fins were their only realistic competition.

This is bad news to me. I'll miss Ricky. My x girlfriend used to call him "samson" becuase he ran better with his long hair.

well I guess I can scracth him off my depth chart in fantasy football.

I bet he is still battling depression. It can be a mo fo sometimes. Remember, the guy is on a fairly high dose of 'paxil'.
