Gilligan certainly wants us to believe Hank gets killed. Just before the shootout, there is some major foreshadowing with Hank's phone call to Marie. He calls to tell her it's over. They get all lovey dovey and she acknowledges his heroism. He says "I love you" and then .... "Goodbye" (forever?)... just before the thugs roll in with guns.
When I saw him say goodbye.. I fully expected the thugs to arrive moments later which they did. But I also expected Hank to eat it before the credits. As it is.. no way Hank or Gomez get away on their own. I think it's safe to say Gomez eats it. Hank, on the otherhand, could take some bullets, go unconscious, and then as per Walt's insistence... get dropped off (rolled out of a car?) at a hospital in a coma or some shit like that. No other way he survives that shootout.
Gilligan has done a helluva job with this script. Good stuff man.
