Ya exactly, all while you are looking outside the window knowing what your fate is going to be.
What was that last major plane to go down a few years ago?? Not anything to do with 9-1-1. It was the one where it lasted for a several minutes going up and down. Can you imagine what it was like for everyone on board, and what it would be like??!!

Wil,
Did you read that book? I absolutely hate the air. My last flight was from San Fran to JFK and I swear to God the guy next to me was a big Mafioso Don with the worst bladder problem. Every 10 minutes The Godfather had to pee and refused to switch seats with me ... even when we were landing and the seatbelt lights were on.

On top of that the pilot insisted on flying in the clouds ...
and there was a plane that must have been 100 yards away that zoomed past us -- scared the living crap out of me. I think those west coast pilots are all pot heads or something.

I would pull out a cigarette, and then try to get into the cockpit to prevent the plane from crashing.

I have Microsoft flight sim 2004 and am pretty good. Hell, anything is better than crashing.

That would be truly awful knowing that in a matter of moments you are going to die.

That could have been me man, usually if the guy next to me is irritating I will make a half dozen trips to the bathroom just to drive him nuts:coffeetim

There is one clear difference between flying and driving.

You are more likely to get into an accident when driving, BUT you probably won't die. Compare that to an accident in an airplane where you are pretty much guaranteed to die.
I believe, but not certain, that there is a higher probablility of DIEING in in car crash than plane crash.

Lander, no I did not read the book. I actually like to fly very much. Having flown in just about every rattle trap aircraft the US miliatary had back in the 60's, nothing scares me anymore.

wil.

Lander - glad to see my 20,000th post got used up responding to one of your questions.:digit:

Well that depends.

If you mean in your entire lifetime, then yes there is a greater chance to die in a car crash. This is primarily because you are in a car more often than an airplane.

However, for a single occurance, you are far more likely to die in an airplane crash than a car crash.

Single occurance is irrelevant. The probability needs to be taken as a whole.

Based on the statistics, people should be a lot more nervous every time they get in a car than a plane.

I am not nervous at all in my car. When I am driving, I have complete control of the car and situation. I am a defensive driver and have been in very very few accidents in my lifetime.

When I am in an airplane I have ZERO control.

people who fear flying just take peek at this;

40,000-45,000 people are Killed EACH YEAR in the USA driving. Who knows how many serious and very serious injuries there are in addition, probably over 100,000.

flying- about 200 people a year. not many serious injuries.

its not worth it to be afraid of flying, if your afraid remember these numbers and it will help keep it in check.

I fly to Vegas a lot and the bumpiness after take off there is usually moderate to severe, its so routine to me now I'm ready for it and expecting it. it still sucks but the plane is not in any danger.

Congrats Wil. Knowing the 20,000th could have been used for yet another Bosox or Patriot tribute, or even a 'pray for America' out-of-political-retirment thread, or one of those 'No Id -- you cannot moderate', or a 'Crudebar, for the last time -- we know your Grandpa doesn't play at homebets', or even a 'Ken, pay me more money or THE Shrink user gets deleted forever -- I feel honored.

You're alright in my book, even for a Yankee-hating Masshole ;)

Just remember the plane is flying about 250 miles an hour almost immediately after it gets in the air. No mere gust of wind is going to counteract the forward momentum of that! I have flown time from time on a 7 passenger Piaggio between Las Vegas and Reno, about two of the windiest places to land you can find. It can be worse, trust me.

wildbill,

that is exactly what comforts me when I take off from Las Vegas and it gets real bumpy. I look out the window and realize I am way up in the air and the wind could knock the plane up or down or upside down and it wont matter, I'm not going to crash.

well, not yet anyway :storm01: :raining:
