Last night’s loss on the total highlights one of the differences between the NBA and WNBA. Despite the fact that the game was well in hand, the girls played hard until the final whistle. And the referees officiated the game as though it were close. The last three possessions with a shot attempt ended with a shooting foul called on the defense, culminating in five made free throws in the final 40 seconds. Hopefully we avoid those kind of beats over the weekend.

Revenge spot at home for Phoenix after losing to Dallas three nights ago. These teams have played each other twice in the last two weeks, with each team winning by four. The totals in those games were 166 and 174. I anticipate this game will be tight with a good scoring pace as the prior two were. I believe Phoenix asserts themselves in the fourth quarter and gets a much needed home win. The Mercury are only 1-3 at home so far and really need/want to have more success in their building. Usually I don't lay double digits in professional basketball games. However, the Liberty are hit hard with injuries. Natasha Howard is still out. Sabrina Ionescu is missing her second straight game with an ankle injury. Normally, a team would be more capable of filling in for a couple absences. But the Liberty have five players who are away from the team or sitting out the entire season due to Euro League or Olympic obligations. I expect Vegas to get out to an early lead and run away with this one.

The Sun did a nice job covering for not having Alyssa Thomas. However, Jonquel Jones is away from the team competing in Europe and that is a big loss. She is the betting favorite over my pick Breanna Stewart to win MVP. I expect Chicago to begin ascending in the standings now that the team is healthier. Candace Parker is back and the team has won three in a row. The Sky are catching Connecticut at the right time, plain and simple. GL!

Normally I wouldn’t bet against Connecticut at home. They are fantastic on their home court. However, Jones is still away from the team for Olympic reasons and the Sun are scuffling. It’s not easy to win games when the leading MVP candidate isn’t on the floor. Unless the Sun get big games from Bonner and Thomas, I think they go down again. I will
update if I have anything on the late game. GL
