i don't know why everyone thinks bourbon st is so special

Come on dude. Tourists aren't pouring in from all over the U.S. to visit Sacramento or Oklahoma City.

Per ESPN, looks like it came together because of a unique clause in Cousins' contract that gave him authority this July to choose to extend his contract for 5 years at $209 million. I can understand Sacramento not wanting to spend that much despite how good Cousins is. Therefore Sacramento had zero leverage. Pretty much had to trade him and Pelicans were the beneficiary.

I don't understand where the "he's a gang banging thug" narrative comes from.

The problem with Cousins is whether or not he can learn to control his emotions on the basketball side of things.

lol. If Cousins didn't have a free ride to Kentucky and the millions of the NBA, there is ZERO doubt he'd be a lifer in prison.

Keep on with this narrative that thugs like that guy would be Sir Isaac Newton.

How did you arrive at the conclusion that not a gang-banger = Sir Issac Newton?

Do the pelicans have the best starting front court in NBA history?

That’s hilarious.

2 guys who have never won anything are better than Parish and McHale and Russell & Heinsohn. Otherwise, other duos who were unquestionably better:

Willis Reed and Dave DeBusschere
Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes
David Robinson and Tim Duncan

This was the most lopsided trade in NBA history.
I challenge anyone to find a more lopsided trade on paper then this ever.
All
of a sudden New Orleans is 1 player away from being the #2 seed in the west .

On July 12, 2013, the Brooklyn Nets officially announced they had acquired Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and D.J. White from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Keith Bogans and their unprotected first-round draft picks in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The Celtics also received the right to swap first-rounders with the Nets in 2017.
This was the NBA equivalent of the Herschel Walker trade.
It gave the Nets nothing, and allowed the Celts to rebuild with top 10 or higher picks for years and become a real good team that's maybe one player away from being elite.

I'd guess the Kings really loved Hield, although he hasn't shown much, they also wanted to guarantee that they get a 1st round draft pick because if their pick falls outside the top 10 it would go to the Bulls. Thus you'll see the Kings tank the rest of the season to get that top 10 pick which they'll have to swap spots with the Sixers if it becomes a higher pick than the Sixers first round pick.

The 200+ million that they would have had to pay Boogie can now be used on other players. Tough to give a guy that much money guaranteed who's proven to be a malcontent and with questionable character. I'm sure they would have loved the Celtics picks but it looks like Ainge might ride it out and see what young player's they end up with. The Cavs aren't getting any younger and it sure looks like the Celtics will have 2 top 4 picks in the next 2 drafts to add to their core.

Kings had enough of Cousins and his mentally ill bullshit.

He is a great talent but he is a loose cannon just like Draymond Green.

17 technical fouls on the season.....What a joke!

Chop,

I think you are vastly over rating Cousins. He can put up big numbers on terrible teams. That is all he has proven so far. He's been in the league a while now, if he was a great player or even a top 25 player in the league this team wouldn't be a bottom dweller ever year with him as the main guy. You stick a superstar and a horrible team that team will improve 15 wins. Boogie isn't that kind of player.
He does a lot of things that make him look like a special player, good handle, good shot, good post game but he does nothing great. Not a terrific defender either. The Pelicans were looking at Okafor too, he could average 20 and 9 if he was the focal point for a bad team too. Despite those numbers he is at best a marginal player because he defense stinks so he gives up more then gets.

Hard to classify this as a steal for anyone yet. They were shopping him for a long time and this is the best they could get. Cousins is due for free agency and even marginal players get $100mil nowadays, so Cousins will get $200mil based on his numbers. At 200 mil I'm sure half the league wouldn't trade a rack of basketball for Cousins if they knew they would have to resign him, maybe they would give up a little for him as a rental.

Thats before you even get to his emotional problems. Thats a side I won't even get into.

This guy will never be a star on a contending team, maybe as a roll player. Which this trade is probably good for him. He's proven he can't lead a team or even make a team average on his own. They need Davis to be the superstar then a guard to be the star, maybe Boogie as a role player. If you think they are gonna be championship contenders with him as the second best player your nuts. He may be the best center numbers wise, but every single team in the league would take Townes or Embiid over him, and probably a few other players too.
