The best part about getting your news from Bloggers is that nothing of what they write needs to be fact checked like those of a proper news paper...Fuck facts.

LOL...most of the "news" from blogs IS links to newspapers. :nohead:

They are just the gatekeepers...and purveyors.

Newspapers are fact checked...really?

Ever hear of Jason Blair at the NY Times? :missingte

Thank you for once again torpedoing your own argument. If most news from blogs come from newspapers, how can you say that it's the blogs who kill newspapers?

Newspapers are fact checked...really?

They are supposed to, and with some exceptions, are. You will very rarely find wild rumours in newspapers while those, combined with extremely biased comments, are the bread and butter of most blogs.

:lolBIG:...being obtuse again?

Newspapers charge 1.00 for the same news you can get from a blog for free?

And you don't see why the blogs are killing off the newspapers?

Ok bud...whatever. :howdy:

So you are really saying it is both possible and lawful for blogs to provide free links to protected content of newspaper's websites. I find that hard to believe.

Why not? The best new electronic newspaper in the world is the Google news page.

And they even put their own ads there...and make money off of it.

MJ, as far as I can see all the articles Google News links to are not protected. Actually, I believe the vast majority of newspapers offer their online-content free for everyone.
So what do you think has a bigger influence on the demise of print-newspapers, online-newspapers or Blogs that link to some articles of online-newspapers? How many people would stop buying print newspapers if there were no online newspapers, just some Blogs?

Print decline started before the Internet. Certainly the interent has made it much worse.

I don't get it. I spend time online sure, but I still love the Daily paper.

So you are really saying it is both possible and lawful for blogs to provide free links to protected content of newspaper's websites. I find that hard to believe.

That's actually a fact.

As long as the Blog is not-for-profit, they're considered akin to a public library.

They must provide direct links to the cited newspaper and can only repost snippets or truncated portions of the copyrighted content.

The above description is a bit fast and loose, but it's offered in friendly explanation that yes, blogs can directly link to content.

Another analogy would be someone who buys the daily paper for $1.00 and then gives a public speech wherein he holds up a copy of the newspaper and points to content within as supporting info for a portion of his speech.

1) For the moment, it's certainly the online versions of the declining print product. But as blogs and news feeds begin to acrue credibility for posting honest information and clearly delineating "news" from in-house Opinion that references "news" (quite a distinction that is often skimmed over by many cyber publishers) - there will likely be more than a few that are worthy of just as big an audience as a mainstream cyber version of a "newspaper".

2) Your second question is admittedly rhetorical, with the answer being, "Few people would stop buying print newspapers if there were no cyber versions offered....

UNTIL

...the aforementioned increase in credibility by non-traditional sources housed on the web began to methodically pull away much of the audience for print newspapers.

Since that scenario is wholly imaginary (newspapers are in fact producing ccyber versions of themselves), it's useless to speculate how long such a switchover in #2 would take. Though I'll guess anyway...heh...and say that sans cyber versions of mainstream newspapers, newly created cyber products would probably have at least half the "reading" market for news by the year 2015. (North America for sure...with Europe likely not far behind)

In the case of the Google News page referenced above, Google is permitted to run ads because they are paying the cited outlets for content. It's a relatively modest amount, but it allows them to legally reproduce content as well as redirect via hyperlinks to the cited source's own online location.
