Shipley's drop on a sure TD in the first quarter might have been a bigger play. Texas had no rhythm and once they got it, they played ok. That TD would have gotten them back in the game earlier and given them momentum. It was an easy catch and needed to be made.
Draw the line? What, do you want the kid executed or something? It's just a game. A big play, but just a game. Texas can still win out and have a shot. And if not, they are still one helluva football team.Sure, that would've been a nice momentum changer, but the TT DB also got his hand in the path of Shipley's vision on that play, so it was more difficult than it looked.
We're talking about a pick here that was so incredibly easy it's baffling. The thing was on a tee with no one in the guy's line of sight and where he didn't need to change direction, I'm sorry this is a no brainer. All these other 'what if' scenarios that people are posting are moot. At this criticial juncture of the game, Gideon had the responsibility to make that play. Now UT needs a series of miracles to have any NC shot which is a position they shouldn't be in today. Sometimes you need to draw the line and this is one of those rare, indisputable plays.
Anyone else notice how much time Texas left on the clock with there final plays on the go ahead TD drive. Last two snaps they could have run at least 30 - 40 seconds off the clock leaving Tech with under a minute for their final drive. IMO this is where the game was lost. They were on the 5 yard line so conserving time wasn't an issue, and you knew giving TT the ball back with over a minute was a losing proposition.
