"Modern day slavery is rap and hip hop. If you don't act a thug or ghetto then you aren't consider black."
Look at media and sports and tell me that statement is false. Was it last season when Russell Wilson's "blackness" was being questioned.... Is racism alive today? absolutely. It sadly will probably always be. But reality is a small percent of the population is racist. Proof is in the fact that a black man is pres, for 8 years now. The most famous & loved sports figures are black. Actors, business men, doctors, the list goes on. Maybe its just So Cal but I know plenty of successful black people, including many in my own fam. Skin color does not determine success, actions do. Bringing up slavery and can't get anywhere is always a cop out. No one alive today was ever a slave, a slave owner, or personally knew any slaves. Name 3 slaves right now. That was ancestor times and the history is black people were sold by black people to white people, who were then set free by white people. People default way to often default to racism when something bad happens. We all have different hurdles and challenges and yea sometimes skin color is a hurdle, but life is hard in general (unless you are lebrons kid). If modern day wants to get out the past then they need to leave the past behind. But its easy to keep it around so there is an excuse for failure. Overplaying the race card fuels the racism and keeps it from going away. But lets no overlook that there is some black privileged as well.. affirmative action, companies hiring minorities, colleges, scholarships and program that are specifically only available to black folks.
