When Brooks talks, he almost sounds content.
He is proud of his work on the football field and in the community, where his Aaron Brooks Family Foundation has pushed for literacy and raised money for books in the inner city.
"Hopefully I get that call, but I won't let this situation control who I am," he said. "Football doesn't define me. It is just a part of my life."
The other part of Brooks' life involves time as a developer in Virginia. He said there are plans in store for him and some partners to redevelop part of downtown Newport News.
He still recalls vividly how he threw interceptions in big games and laughed as he danced off the the field. How he sat on the bench during defense never speaking to teammates or looking at defensive photos..How he would change the play in the huddle only get to the line and run the original play or hand the ball off to the wrong back then scream at the bench to take out the off lineman who missed a block he didnt know he was supposed to make.. And ofcourse how the ball would just fall out of his hand with no contact whatsoever in key situations........followed by more laughter..
He still has the pictures of Hasllet exiting a motel rm at 4am that kept him in the league years longer than he should have been.
