The Arizona Cardinals fired head coach Kliff Kingsbury, who 10 months ago signed a contract extension through the 2027 season. The Cardinals still never have had a head coach - any head coach - last longer than six years while the team has existed for over 100 years.

As a Cardinal fan, very glad they got rid of both. Speculation around Payton (of course) and those who want the franchise to descend into another level of hell are touting the current d-coordinator Vance Joseph.
Other names include Frank Reich (not exactly a match for Murray), Jim Harbaugh (interesting), the Lions offensive coordinator, the Eagles QB coach, Byron Leftwitch (was with Cardinals under Arians) and, God help us all...Jason Garrett who would be a disaster.

When Dallas again flops in this year's Playoffs Mike McCarthy should lead the list.

Wilks, in my opinion did a great job. He should move from "interim" to Head Coach.

Wilks was way over his head in his year with the Cardinals. As an interim with no expectations, he won a few games. If Carolina wants to make that mistake, sobeit.
McCarthy could last as long as Garrett.

  • Who would want Denver, stuck w Wilson? Lost all those draft picks? Nope. F
  • Indy is an attractive situation, good team add a solid QB, trade up for Stroud-Levis-Young or sign Carr-Garapollo or somebody. B
  • Cardinals? Deal with Murray? Nope. C-
  • Carolina same as Indy find a QB, finally. B-
  • Houston? Not too bad, draft a top QB, they will not expect miracles B

Don't know what Wilks was like as a coach in 2018. But I believe in personal growth. Failure is the best teacher if you are willing to learn from your mistakes. I know a guy who wasn't very good as a head coach until he didn't. From 91-95 this head coach compiled a 36-44 record. Then in 2000 a guy named Robert Kraft watched him as the Defensive coordinator for the Pats under Bill Parcells and knew he wanted that guy to take over when the opportunity presented itself. Well in 2020 it did and the rest is history. The guy - of course is Bill Belichick.

Fast forward to Steve Wilks. The guy took over a 1-4 team under Rhule in Week 6. By week 7 his best player was gone to San Francisco, Christian McCaffrey. Wilks proceeded to win 6 of his next 12 games eventually benching both PJ Walker and Baker Mayfield for a scrapheap guy named Sam Darnold. Together they won 4 of their last six games by focusing on the run game and keeping the pressure off Darnold. All while coaching a pretty decent Defense.

That's what the 2022 Steve Wilks did. And you want to fire him? Not me. If I'm ownership I'm looking forward to next year with him.

Stefanski sucks, Saints coach needs to go to unemployment line with Stefanski.Guess Mcdaniels gets one more year.Pretty impressive though, Raiders first team since 1931 to Have 17 point lead or more 4 times in first half and lose them all.Smith in ATL I guess deserves one more year, in a QB driven league he had bottom 5 QB and won almost half his games.I think Staley sucks in San diego so if he loses to Jack, I woukd can him too.Should of been in playoffs year before, but got tricky took timeout against Raiders and lost, when it was quite evident a tie would of been fine with the Raiders. He makes what I think are a lot of poor game management decisions to cost them games.Every year the experts say the Chargers are loaded and going to SB. And their superbowl is usaully if they win a playoff game it was a great year.

Think Wilks should and will be the Panthers head coach nest season.
He definitely earned it, seems he learned from his first go at head coach
Panthers were a solid team with what they had.

The players like him and want to play for him as shown on the field week to week

Belichick was a coordinator on a Super Bowl winner so not exactly sure using him as a comparison to Wilks makes any sense. Wilks took over an 8-8 AZ team and "led" them to an NFL worse 3-13 record...I had to live through that as a Cardinal fan.
Given their division, he probably fits in and can win some games playing six against TB, NO and Atlanta.

If I were you I would get on your knees and beg Sean Payton to come . It will cost you the 3rd pick of the draft though . But well worth it

Wilks is not what you think.
Look at how much he has bounced around.
Why?
I am from the midwest and not a Missouri U. alum but he was a disaster as Missouri DC.

He was fired or "not retained" in several of his gigs.
Missouri was relieved that he "left", at mid season they had to jump in, take over, and modify his defensive strategies and schemes and the team improved on D thereafter.
