Kiefer is out, at least according to Keady, this was yesterday though

Carroll or Nwankwo Will Start Against Illinois

Purdue will start an entirely new frontcourt Wednesday night against Illinois than the one it started at Wisconsin Sunday.
On Sunday, senior Brett Buscher started alongside backup center Kevin Garrity, who was replacing the disciplined Ivan Kartelo in the opening five.
Against the Fighting Illini, Kartelo will return to the starting five and Buscher will return to the bench, which seems to be the ideal situation for the 6-foot-8 Buscher, who’s always fared better as a reserve.
So, that leaves an open starting position, being that sophomore Matt Kiefer is still out with a broken bone in his foot. In his absence, someone will be making their first start of the season.
It’ll either be sophomore Matt Carroll or freshman Ije Nwankwo, Coach Gene Keady said before Tuesday’s practice.
“It’ll be Ije or Matt Carroll, depending on how Matt’s shoulder is, because Buscher doesn’t like to start,” Keady said. “And of course, Ivan (will start).
“We might have Carroll. It depends on how practice goes today.”
For Carroll - who's been sidelined by a separated shoulder - that’s great news. It’s been a long season for the sophomore, who redshirted last season with hopes of being a significant factor this season. It never came to be, and just as Kiefer’s injury and Kartelo’s situation arose, Carroll was injured himself.
“Let pain be my guide, they said, and I really have to strengthen my shoulders,” Carroll said, wearing a brace covering his right shoulder and the top portion of his arm. “But it was good news, that my shoulder's improved.”
Now, Carroll might get the opportunity he was denied when he got hurt at Minnesota.
“It was tough,” he said. “It was a rough time. I just tried to stay positive. Basically, I told myself everything happens for a reason and tried to remain positive.”
Keady suggested Monday that Carroll would be out for the Illinois game, but that’s changed. The coach said, however, there’s no change in Kiefer’s status; he’ll sit Wednesday night.
For his part, Nwankwo is hoping to get his first start.
“It would be pretty exciting to get my first career start,” Nwankwo said. “Whatever Coach decides to do, whatever’s in the best interests of the team, that’s what I’ll do.”
The burly freshman has seen extended minutes of late, with the lack of options in the front court, and following his breakout 17-point showing against Indiana a few weeks ago.
Since that IU game, Nwankwo has been well-scouted, while officials have treated him like a freshman. His physical post game has produced more offensive fouls and turnovers than anything else.
“Sometimes, teams try to have another man sitting in the lane, so I can’t get to the basket as easily,” Nwankwo said. “The refs have called some questionable offensive fouls. … It gets frustrating sometimes, but you just have to play through it.”
