Eibon,

My Super Bowl system did not work out last year. That doesn't mean it's worthless or that I should scrap the whole thing. There is always that "exception to the rule" and this year New England was it for me. It just means more and more research, something I love to do.

I will grant you that... BUT you said you would NEVER post here again. That is the point, and you are ignoring it.

HUH? EVERY team played New England close in the playoffs! Carolina didn't give them a real game? Then why did it take last-second field goal to beat them? The Colts were in it until the last few minutes as well.

The only team to not give New England a game in -both- their Super Bowl runs was Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship Game.

Eibon,

When it comes to winning in the playoffs it's all about defense. If you want to win you have to keep your opponent from scoring 20 points or more.

When you run the numbers back to 1978 for the wild card round and to 1970 for the divisional round and the conference finals you see that teams who score 20 points or more have gone an incredible 238-80 SU for a 74.8 winning percentage. Teams that score 19 points or less have gone 52-210 SU for a 19.8 winning percentage. By holding the Pats to only 17 points they had the best chance to upset them in the post-season, unlike the Colts who lost 24-14.

I will discuss the Panthers/Patriots Super Bowl matchup tomorrow.
