Dustin Hoffman reinvented the role of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. That alone puts him on top. Couple of sleeper roles of his: Wag The Dog and American Buffalo. Tom Hanks is probably one of the best at playing the average Joe. I put him up there with Jimmy Stewart in that regard.Two I liked him in that didn't get much ink were Road To Perdition and The Terminal. Robin Williams is pretty much a two trick pony.

Gotta give the nod to Hoffman over Hanks. But Hanks in Big is my favorite performance by either of them.

but....being a bit younger, I like Pacino scene giving his speech in any given sunday...and lots of his speeches in two for the money
