Response to peskypup (By Betfair.com)
Hi peskypup:
We could go over all of the (good and bad) aspects of each and every bookmaker and exchange. In fact that's what this forum is partly for...but we would soon find out that there is no perfect place to bet for each type of person.
Personally, I think it makes sense for Canadians to keep their options open and include Betfair in their betting armoury (along with Betdaq, Pinnacle, Matchbook and a few others...).
You also may find this interesting...I found this blog from a Canadian Betfairian who bets almost exclusively on US Sports. As you can see he made a tidy profit trading in and out of the NY Giants game last night on Betfair.
You can also see this fantastic greened up book on the
Celtics/Hawks game, on Dec 18. He's making some great money using BF as his betting platform.
Unlike yourself who uses Betfair to mostly value bet, he is definitely trading positions in-play and is surely paying the premium charge.
Furthermore and I know you refuse to believe it but since we introduced the new charge, 0.34% of customers who bet with us in the period (i.e. not including accounts that haven’t bet with us during the period, because that would be misleading) have ever paid the premium charge, even if just the once. It is almost important for people who read this post to know that you bet about $1 million dollars with Betfair and have not paid any extra charges yet.
The charge is highly targeted at those whose activity is totally uneconomic, and it allows them to continue winning where other operators would have restricted their stakes or shut their accounts. But obviously even if you’re creaming and paying the charge you’d probably still prefer not to pay and make even more.
I'd also like to note that the new charge which affects very few people is hardly a “backslide” into “gouging” to stop selling our product for less than cost.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Thanks,
Rob
