1 thing that gets most people is they want to play something that sounds like music right away. It can take a beginner a few weeks to learn a 3 chord progression....they get bored and quit.
Here is a small solution to that. Find some sites that show you how to tune your guitar to 'open' chords. What that does is make you able to play major chords with 1 finger. You'll be banging out songs overnite and it will make playing more fun. Look for how to videos on you tube by searching for guitar altered tunings....
Also for that acoustic as well as others there is a free app available for smart phones called "da tuner"....lets you tune your guitar perfectly in seconds just using your phone....free and very handy...
I can barely play a lick anymore due to arthritic fingers but when im busto like now it occupies my time......Ive got like a $3K rack system and i cant play 1 song alll the way thru.....lol
