Noone beats Vern Lundquist on a Saturday evening. I don't care who they put with him. I also actually enjoy Tirico I know these may not be "all time" but best in college football IMO

Not only was Howard a notorious drunk when in the booth, he probably pulled the worst moment in sports booth history, which was fortunately not televised.
Basically, the story goes that on one MNF the Cowboys had Don Meredith Hero night with big glory and honors for Dandy Don. Don was dressed to the nines of Cowboy fashion in a shiny brand new pair of Western boots. Howard was so drunk he ended up puking all over them.
And that's the way it was.

Watch it...you are talking about a legend...

Unsanitized ,corporate-free, 'spirited' Meredith and Cosell mirrored the gritty muddy games they announced. I'm new to soccer but recent Euro 08 announcers Derek Ray and Andy Gray tuned me back years to old school knowledgeable, free style expertise (yes they were announcing from studios in Bristol and not on-site) that was as addictive as the great games they covered. Foudy and Smyth in the studio were also strong. There are scores of great announcers in college towns across the country. I know this is about duos, but Maryland's Johnny Holiday for hoops and foots is among the best in the universe regardless of partner. UNC's Woody Durham is a ledgend. Even as an ACC fan, I like Georgetown's frenetic Chvotkin's', " Hoyas Win, Hoyas Win." (mix in two or three more repeats depending on the opponent). As the recent passing of Jim Mckay reminded, all these announcers are treasures and are linked to our internal experience of the game.
