Finally saw The Best of It. I thought it was a well made and interesting look at sports betting but kind of depressing.

I don't envy any of the characters lives portrayed. Alan Boston seemed unhappy but a decent guy nonetheless. The Shrink loses his house and commits suicide. Lem Banker gets robbed by his own kids. Dink was the only one who seems like he was somewhat well adjusted.
Anyone else watch this?

The only thing I got out of it was that Shrink was a complete fraud.

Shrink with a wry smile, "I am the sharpest gambler on the planet, because nobody has access to the sharpest cappers like I do." 2 weeks later he goes all in on a bridge jumper and stiffs everyone and takes a dirt nap.

I think he was the guy who insisted that Aces Gold was safe right up to the NE-StL superbowl when Aces went
under with 36,000 of my money & many lost far more than me.

Ages Gold was my first offshore gambling site. They owned me one dime.

I enjoyed it.

Boston comes off as a genuine person. I respect that.

Dink seems to be good guy with a solid sense of humor / perspective.

Everything about that guy was complete bullshit.

You're right, but we didn't need a documentary to tell us that. I think the documentary makes him look better than he was. jmo
I dunno, it made him look like a soft, borderline gay lisping name dropper and arrogant bragger about stuff that wasn't even real. Then he bet his life on a game and lost and then stiffed everyone and committed suicide and took his wife with him. I'm not sure how much worse you can look if you aren't starring in Lockup or Cops.

Wait there is a documentary about the owner of the Rx?? WHAT.

I don't know his story or really any story about this place. I'd watch it. Does Brock Landers make a cameo?

A movie on the Rx with some characters from this place. That would be good.

I rented it off amazon the other day.. Pretty good documentary.. I'm fairly new here, I just seen an old thread from 2004 with the shrink posting in it.. I didn't realize he use to frequent these boards.. Kinda eery, knowing his fate after watching that documentary

He actually does. But if you blink, you miss him.

Scene when Dink has a computer open. The page on the screen is actually Brock's Facebook page. And the famous forum pic of Skippy at the Hoover Dam with his white and green Sandlot baseball shirt..

Yep he founded it. The story I've heard, not sure if it's true, is that he originally went to school to be a shrink but dropped out, that's how he got his nick-name. It's also how the RX got it's name, cause a shrink can prescribe (RX).

"He turned his newsletter into an online gambling portal and called it The Prescription. The Shrink would boast as many as 35 advertisers at his peak. He claimed to make $100,000 a month or more from the banner ads that blinked across his website."

DNoonan, thanks for posting the link to that story. I had never read in any detail about the Shrink before. Hard to believe an educated man would allow things to spiral out of control like he did.
