Kieth Richards must have died 5 or 6 times but came back to life, so in those times I'll say he was.

Agree with this post....Would say Jerry G. was the best all around player.
Had the pleasure to See him play 150+ shows....

too many gone to say who's the best. all depends on ppls taste in music. i would say jerry cause he just didnt play one type of sound. he could jump in and jam too any band. and the dead played all types of music. just my 2 cents...hate on haters.

btw....a great thread would be who's the greatest guitarest who never did drugs? if there are any....

Duane Allman's solo on "Stormy Monday" from "Live At The Fillmore East" yanks my chain every time. Therefore he would get my vote by only a **** hair over Jimi Hendrix.

Honorable mention goes to John Cipollina. The best rock guitarist to come out of the Bay area. Much better in my opinion than Jerry Garcia.

i always heard Ted Nugent never did drugs. He was just insane on his on. He would have to be in my top five dead or alive leaving all the politics aside. Allen Collins from the origional Lynyrd Skynyrd line up could boogie with the best of them also. Alot of great talent came down the pike in the late 60's and into the 70's.
