A great list as it is a great start to who actually to respect around here without the BS to go along with it.

If you are into FCS, Div II & III stuff, I'm your guy especially for FCS over FBS upsets. I focus on it a lot more as it is a lot of fun to pick apart the weak lines.

I rarely post any picks; I let the youngers guys here in this Forum do that , who I feel have a better handle on today's game than I do. I've been following college football since I was a kid. I listened to the "game of the century" on the radio in 1946 when Army, ranked #1, played #2 ranked Notre Dame to a scoreless tie
(no overtime back then) in Yankee Stadium in front of 75,000 howling fans. It was a regular season game in November; I was 12 years old (you can do the math as to how old I am). Most of the great college players were still in the military academies at that time. FYI, I did play H.S. football (left-end).....no college, My sport used an inflated round-ball that bounced and you tried to get it though a hoop.

Needless to say, the game of football has changed since the era when the singe-wing formation was the offense used and the running-game was executed 9 out of 10 plays. Many great athletes played both ways (offense and defense). Todays players are bigger, stronger and faster and posses skills that were unimaginable 65/70 years ago. The equipment worn today is high-tech, the modern-day helmets are something that would have been viewed as being worn by someone from outer-space back then.

I still love the game and wait for each new season to arrive with great anticipation and......I am still willing to make a "friendly" wager or two which makes the game of football doubly challenging as a fan of the game. This is where my "buddies" here in the Rx come-into play; We have some damn good handicappers which have keen insight and vast knowledge of todays game who are willing to go on the limb an share there selections with a reasonable degree of success....bless them. Less than 90 days till opening kick-off guys...keep the faith and God Bless.

Mack, I'm much younger than you are....but I am old enough to remember the days before cable TV and ESPN.

When I was a kid, Florida would play on TV maybe 2 or 3 times a year (usually FL/GA and FL/FSU....and occasionally 1 other). I would listen to every game on the radio. I even listened to basketball on the radio! I can remember playing football in the mornings (pop warner or pick up games) and then in the afternoon...playing more football w/ buddies and sitting by a small radio to hear the Gators play (and they sucked most of the time back then....especially against UGA). I can remember almost being in tears after some of the 1980's losses to Georgia!

When I lived in Atlanta, I attended many of the Georgia home games. Every Dog fan in the stadium would have a radio listening to Georgia's Larry Munson. When I watched Georgia play on TV...we always turned the sound down and listened to Munson on the radio. Best I ever heard for college football.

Back in the 60s, Alabama had two of the best. Damn, their names escape me right now. John Forney and can't remember his co-host.

As a young man in his early 30s, I wasn't alive for the days before TV. However, still to this day I always take my radio in the game to listen to the local guys call it. It also gives me a chance to get injury updates, and get things I can't see from the stands. And it probably goes back to the days as a young kid going to the game with my dad who would always have the big ass headphones on his head with the built in radio. At least mine is a little more incognito.

Cloverleaf, I know you love Munson but I loved John Ward and I hate UT.

Damn clover , i wish you could think of the other announcers name , i'd be curious to know. Doug Layton was the 1st one i remember but he joined Forney in 1969. .... I did a search but couldnt find anything.

btw , interesting tidbit i found during my search was that Mel Allen mostly known for Yankees baseball and the show This Week in baseball was once the public addrress anouncer at Alabama football games. Heh , i had never heard that before.
