Scotty, I seem to remember hearing of a Tommy mentioned at times, but honestly his real name doesn't ring a bell, what was his nickname?
I'm sure some of my relatives would know of him, if he is old-school.
As a teen/twenty-something, I didn't even know that Herbie Hoops was actually Herb Lambeck for about 5 years.
I'm only speculating, but think you guys sound right, as it seems when many of people's social circles & generation pass, that they go back to their homelands, or to family, as comfort.
Hell, I have contemporaries in their mid-thirties, that think the LV of just 15 years ago was a better place than today. And it's almost unanimous of those that are 45+ in age, think that LV was better overall in the Rat Pack era.
Then again, every Austinite,etc..wishes they could've frozen their city's growth 15 to 20 years ago..especially boomtowns with transplants.
The LV casino/sportsbook scene of a mere 10 to 15 years ago in contrast to today, is night and day..for the worse!
As you well know guys, LV &/or Sportsbetting is an burnout industry, as many walk away(at least for a while)..win or lose.
Which reminds me of Woody Harrelson's quote in WMCJ("Sometimes, even when you win, you lose!").
Gambling as a way of life takes a hell of a toll elsewhere(I.E. The Seven Dimensions of Whole Person Wellness)..maybe Shrink will write a bit on this one day, or has, and I missed it.
Really looking forward to your book Scotty!
