Look on Craigslist for awhile and see if you can pick up something between 42" and 46" that is 1080i compatible. It'll take awhile, but it's well worth it. Got myself a TV worth close to $2000 when new for $650 because somebody needed to move (probably worth closer to $1.2k now, but meh).

Visio at Walmart. Picture quality is just fine and the price is definitely right.

720p vs 1080p. I think this has been discussed countless times, but imo, save your money and go with 720p. Unless you're a die-hard tech geek you seriously can't tell too much difference to the point where you'll think 720p is unwatchable. I'm not saying there isn't a difference b/c there is, it's just that it's not that big of a deal when you're talking about a screen size of 37-50in. Plus, if you get a 1080p you'd have to get a blu-ray dvd player and all the best cables to truly enjoy your 1080p viewing. Again, more wasted money imo. Also keep in mind that most tv cable companies are only capable of feeding at 720p.

I have a 720p samsung plasma i bought just over a yr ago, and absolutely love it, no problems at all. Go with Samsung, they're good and reliable.

Well said. Also don't be suckered into buying expensive HDMI cables. Go to monoprice.com and get some cheap ones. High priced HDMI cables are a scam.

I'm in the same spot, want an HDTV 37-42 inch. Same ballpark price wise.

Looking for 720P here. Not only can you not tell the difference on a smaller screen, but not a single channel broadcasts in 1080P or even has plans to. And 720P works well for sports (better than 1080i because of all the movement on the screen).

1080P is really for the blue ray DVD's and the really nice setups.

Insignia IS trash. I'd get a Sony Bravia if I could afford a decent one. Vizio used to be bad, but their quality has gotten better lately. Still researching though.

Isn't everything going Blu-ray? Does that matter in the 1080 v. 720 debate?
