Just want to point out that people that invested with Madoff have gotten back 80% of anything they gave to Madoff. Meaning if you gave Madoff one million dollars and never took any money back you have gotten back $800,000. That is everyone who invested with Madoff.

If you gave Madoff one million and withdrew 2 million over the years of your "profits" then the federal trustee came after you to return the one million you were ahead.

If most of these people got 80% of their money back why do they talk about how they were ruined. They were ruined at the time of the announcement but most of them were very wealthy. I suppose they were living a lifestyle and spending their 13% on paper gains when in reality they made nothing and lost 20% of their investment. At least they got 80% back in most scams there is nothing left like professional athletes who turn their money over to a financial advisor who wipes them out.
