Slurveball:
My point is that baseball has minimal interference/influence from the umpires, especially when compared to football an basketball. Yes, there is an occasional bad call, but the overwhelming majority of baseball calls are obvious, and the very nature of the game (there are no penalties in baseball) restrict the influence the umpires can have. The outcomes of Modern day professional football and basketball games are literally being determined by the referees. This is simply not the case with baseball.
In the cases of golf and tennis, there is 0% influence from refs/umpires.
Now to your point, yes players in any sport can always be on the take, have betS on their team to lose or can throw a game for a variety of reasons...that happens im sure in every sport here and there and that will never change. But I am talking about the sports with the least influence from the refs where the contests are mostly decided by the players on the field.
I can accept players using steroids or being paid off to throw a game...what I cant stand are these nfl and nba refs that literally take the games out of the players hands and decide the games for themselves or for the league they work for telling them to make sure this team wins.

There may be some influence from the umpires on O/Us in Baseball. Wide vs narrow stike zones for an example. But yeah, beyond that they don't have as much inpact on the final result. Not nearly as much as NFL or even NBA. Especially with the new challenge rule this year.
And yes. Golf and Tennis can't really be affected by the officials. But because they are mainly solo sports and not team sports, it's probably easier to rig the player not the game. Maybe not at the highest levels, but lower down.

- This canadian girl is a great kid. I wish her well. But her sudden rise to the top had me wondering a little. And it appears I'm not the only one.

- And what happened to Sharapova you may ask? "But overall it was a dismal day for the statuesque Russian, cutting short what has been a difficult return from months out with a right shoulder injury. Sharapova blamed her tough workouts against Karin Knapp and Alize Cornet after
a left hip injury flared against Cibulkova, who was motivated enough to take advantage.
Sharapova was too strong for Cibulkova in the first set but errors crept in
in the second and after the Slovak levelled at a set each, she left the court for a medical timeout. And Sharapova, rated as the world's highest paid female athlete, succumbed tamely in the third set as she conceded three breaks to keep
her search for a fifth major title on hold."
