As some have pointed out here, it's an extremely tough and saturated market. I know a few bar owners who were pretty much married to their jobs for years while they got up and running. One of them seems to be working out...last time I stopped in, it was packed pretty good. All of them told me you can literally never have enough capital to keep the place running, so be prepared to risk some decent money if you want to give it a go.

You have the right idea of offering something different. Since there are a million and one bars/restaurants to choose from, why should people go to yours? What makes it any different than the rest? It's almost like when most of us here read about a new hotel opening in Vegas...whoop-dee-do, there are already dozens on the strip. There's got to be a reason or selling point people will choose your place over the others. Is the unique saloon atmosphere enough to do the job? Eh, I dunno.

Been a landlord of many bars. One piece of advice. You have to live in the bar. You can never leave for at least the first 5 years. If you attempt to trust the place to a great manager, family, or even your wife you will bust out in less than 6 months. I promise.

Maybe you don't want it out there, so Ill speak in code lol

but assuming youre targeting the major city in your state?

I was shocked how much of a foodie town that place was... I think having a chef that can make some noise would be a good way to go... Get into the food festivals. Hire a nice chef. Do publicity (tons of local magazine/food things there)

Biggest advice I would have, once you find a niche, don't spread yourself out. Cater to that demographic even if it means its not exactly your dream. If you find that the older crowd is where youre having success. cater to them. younger crowd, ect... Your location, theme, menus probably determine more of this... but nothing fustrates me more when I find a place I really like, and then they try to be something they are not...

BTW your start up cost may be enormous too.

You'll be bankrupt in 3 months, and probably take a few investors with you.

Should take you about 7 years to rebuild a nest egg and clean up your credit

So, all in all, I see no reason not to do it

Final statement, I know a couple of owners and their life is a major grind. I completely agree with whats been said here. It won't be nearly as easy as you expect. Always issues. Always working. You have to grind like no one else.

good luck, excited to see where this goes

Lol, you have no idea how much money I have, how much credit I have or what kind of business skills I have so it's pretty presumptuous of you to make this statement.

dont do it unless your so passionate about the bar business that you wont be able to live without giving it a shot.... Besides if you have the proper amount of cash liquid (350k) and are able to finance the rest(up to 1 mil.) you could do better as a real estate investor.

Would need a hipster or affluent area.maybe in an area with a theater...

seeing places like this pop up in up and coming areas around Pittsburgh..overhead seems to be even heavier then your typical bar..would need to eliminate alot of the " modern" bar amenities ( tvs, juke, etc etc ) to keep with the vibe your going for...not sure people would drop by simply for a shot and beer midweek cuz this seems to be more of an experience then a drive thru

not sure where you are geographically but would need to be in a highly populated area for sure

To much competition. You have to have some unreal deep pockets to achieve this. I have a great idea for a bar. Sorta went that route with one of my bakeries, but it never really took off. Needed alcohol and a night lift to make it go. If I ever stumble into 3mil or so, I will make a go at it. You need at least 1mil in cash to do a bar what you are decribing.

IPour and Draft-Serv . . is the future of bars.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) –
ESPN’s Darren Rovell is reporting that Anheuser-Busch and Delaware North have partnered to create self-serve beer stations at Target Field, in Minnesota.
The stations are up and running, just in time for the festivities during the 2014 MLB All-Star weekend.

Go to Bourbon and Branch in Sn Fran - Visit their website first to get the pass word so you can gain access to speak easy portion of the bar described everything you have said you want in your bar - Except the cart thing

Also go to Cannon in Seattle ask to talk to Jamie he is the owner - He is one of the top ten Mixologist in America. Pick his brain about running a bar - He used to work for me amazing guy, never saw the Bar thing coming but knew he would be successful.

That Cannon looks real nice.....not that I know more then Esquire. Capitol hill location makes it perfect for both hipsters and peeps with the scrilla to live up there, let alone rent.
