I know a little about the Bahamas since I lived and worked there for a good 4 years in the early to mid 90's and have family members with business there. I still visit once a year during the summers. I was just there in late October.
My first visit there was in 1981 with my girlfriend and now wife and has been over 23 years of seeing the transformation of Nassau and Paradise Island. So much has changed such as Merv Griffin Casino to Atlantis and Playby Casino to Cable Beach and now to Crystal Palace. Crime has skyrocketed. Police back in the 80's did not carry guns unlike now.
Things to do: you can rent a scooter for a 1/2 day or day and go around the island. Go way out west to Lyford Cay where the rich and famous live (Sean Connery). Bring your girlfriend to Club Med beach for some topless sunbathing and dinner with live participating entertainment. Go downtown shopping on Bay street and visit the straw market. Night time go to the Zoo club for dancing. Got to try their conch fritters, salad and chowder. If your in the market to buy a watch it's definitely cheaper there and no taxes. Must see on Paradise Island is the Atlantis Casino with the largest outdoor aquarium. The casinos also have a Las Vegas style show.
Prices in general for food and entertainment is expensive. Have fun and be safe. Stay close to the toursit area. Don't go into where the locals live because there are alot of gangs.
