Hernandez and Gronk are basically WRs. Plus they don't need to go outside when the inside routes are open. There's only so many balls to go around... Brady is putting up monster numbers every year. Obviously he isn't having trouble finding open guys to throw to... Branch left for Seattle and looked like crap there. Way past his prime but came back to NE and looked pretty good. The system is more important than the players. They obviously don't need a big name WR to be productive, so spending money on a guy like Lloyd makes no sense at all. It's a Madden move, not an NFL one.

The rest of the AFC agrees with you I'm sure.

You must not of watched their offense the past 5 years in games Randy Moss hasn't played. Pretty much no big play ability whatsoever. Brady could putup big #s with you, me and 3 other dudes in this thread, that doesn't mean its the most efficient and best way to run the offense.

Having big play ability in a great offense > having no big play in a great offense
Having Brandon Lloyd > Having deion branch or ochocinco

They don't need to go outside? lol....Just because you can be successful without doing something doesn't mean you couldn't be MORE successful if you could do it.

Not sure whats hard to follow here....

In a fantasy world they'd sign every big name WR in the league. The fact of the matter is that you can't spend big money on every player you want, and the Patriots have plenty of bigger needs that rank well above pass catchers. It's just not logical.

That isn't really what you said. If your saying they should allocate $ differently that is 1 thing but you said they don't NEED a big play WR because the "inside routes are open all day" or whatever....

Like I said, if you watched this team the last 5 years in games Randy Moss hasn't played you would know they need a big play WR instead of relying on guys like Branch, Ocho all day......

Both of your points have merit... Clearly they had a great offense last year, given the numbers and the fact that they were one or two plays away from winning the SB. Clearly they could use an outside threat to make defenses stay a little more honest. Clearly they need to improve their pass-rush and secondary... I'd really rather not see Edelman playing defense again. They have money and picks, I'm sure they'll do some good stuff.

2nd best passing team in the league last year. 3rd in points scored. I'd say their offense is working out just fine without a big-name WR. Their defense is, however, middle of the road.

They also had 1 of the easiest schedules in the league last year.

Trust me they need a good WR on the outside.

We're getting off topic anyway....You said they can just get a random guy and he'll be plugged in fine which like I said is basically "Belichick and Brady can make anyone good" conjecture. If they can make anyone good why didn't they make any WR who played on the outside good in the last 5 years besides Randy Moss?

Branch was OK last year, he had 50 catches for 700 yards. I'm sure every DC in the league who faced NE said thank god these guys don't have an outside threat though.

Jake.....I look forward to the fall when the Pats are putting up 35ppg and I bump this thread where you say the Pats shouldn't of signed Lloyd because "they get production out of average WRs"

Fact of the matter is, they just significantly upgraded 1 of the weakest positions on their team.

Their D sucks but who cares, its flag football anyway these days. Just get the most weapons you can and pray for a few turnovers in the big games.
