The Spysweeper is much more thorough than those products. Also make sure your computer has all the latest updates.

The problem is that my computer will not access the internet. The "about:blank" problem Newport described.

Fairwarning: Did you read this thread? It was updates from Microsoft that caused the problem in the first place!

I am running Spy Sweeper now. It sure takes a long time, but it looks like it is covering a lot of stuff. Mostly cookies detected, which I suppose are normal.

I read it. What you can do also is to go into system restore and set your computer back to the day before you installed the SP2. All of your settings will go back to that day. You should have internet access then. Run your Spysweeper. As you have noticed, the first time does take a long time to catch everything. Let me know how it comes out.

Spysweeper cleaned up some stuff but didn't solve the problem. Still no internet. Since I've misplaced the system restore CD that isn't really an option....

Are there any other solutions? Newport, what did Microsoft do to help you?

Thanks for the tips Fairwarning.

Baus, I don't believe you need the sys restore CD...

If you can boot Windows:
Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Click the Restore My
Computer to an earlier time, next.
If you cannot boot Windows:
Boot into safe mode. Click the System Restore link. Click the Restore My Computer to an
earlier time, next.
Note: Current documents, files and e-mail are not affected during a restoration.
Undoing a Restoration
Reversing Restoration if you can boot your computer:
Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Click "Undo my last restoration", next. Click Ok to the
screen message after the reboot.
Reversing Restoration if you cannot boot your computer:
Boot into safe mode, follow the help screen and choose, "Undo my last restoration".
Note: If you have chosen the wrong restore date, follow the steps under, "Undoing a Restoration".

All Spysweeper does is remove spyware. It takes out data miner tracking bs. Doesn't repair problems on your computer.

You need antivirus protection to remove the trojan if that's what you have.

Also if you want to fix some problems on the computer try "Tune up Utilites". Does a diagnostics check on your computer. Can get it at Downloads.com also.

BAUS call that number I have in the first box of the thread. Tell them you have a "about:blank" on the hme page, and they will create a case number for you. Of course you have to talk these people for awhile, tell them your story, and then you will get calls back, telling that in 3-5 days you will get an appointment call. They will have your run this software calle hijack, and it will create a report. They will have a specialist read the report, and walk you through cleaning out the exact files.

SPY SWEEPER will nto remove it, but It does confirm identification, and that it is an SP update problem. SWEEPER will remove all the other crap that does your computer no good.

Calll that number, that is why I posted it 1866 727-2338 Microsoft PC SAFETY LINE

And another comment ot all the upset posts to microsoft...I AGREE

But the thing to be upset about is that they know they have a HIJACKER on their own SECURITY PACK update. SO, then stop the UPDATE right?????

That would be fvkin logical

NO, let the hijacker, come on, and then they all earn their salaries helping us remove it.

COME ON, IF a 3rd party SPY SWEEPER already has a screen that says this is a " trojan that came with SP2 update" Well then if this 3rd party is in the "know"....Then obviously Microsoft is a well

That is like selling a car, that you know has a fvkin hole in the gas tank, Let the person drive it until they run out of gas, and the tow it back to the dealership to get repaired......Do not sell the car to begin with.

Oh I forgot, the dealership owns the TOW TRUCK company.

Now that about puts into perspective

Coach I see your point...but you can be smart and still have a virus sneak into your computer ...they find tons of ways...I think the better word is be vigilant while you surf the net and to what you open in emails

NO BS. I just went through this earlier this week after I downloaded the XP service pack on my other computer. This about:blank was a hard virus to get rid of. Spybot search and destroy wouldn't work. The only thing that got rid of it was Stopzilla and going into my "run" programs and doing a msconfig and unchecking the items that don't belong.
