Bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills expected tonight
through the weekend...
... A significant winter storm quite possible this weekend...
A cold front will cross the entire region today, allowing another
shot of Arctic air to infiltrate the entire area tonight and right
into the weekend. Toward daybreak on Friday, low temperatures will
range from 0 to 5 degrees across the southern Poconos. Elsewhere,
including the coastal communities, low temperatures will range
between 10 to 20 degrees. Wind chills values at the Friday morning
bus stop will range from near 15 below to 10 above. Friday's high
temperatures will only climb into the teens to mid 20s, but wind
chill values will remain bitterly cold, ranging from near 15 below
to 10 above. Temperatures are expected to be even colder by Saturday
morning. It's quite possible that some Pocono and northwest New
Jersey locations could see actual air temperatures plunge below 0.
Wind chill values will continue to be bitterly cold Friday night
into Saturday.
On the heels of this very cold airmass, the National Weather Service
continues to track a developing storm system that will dive into the
northern plains Friday. This storm will then be on our doorstep
Saturday. With the cold air entrenched across the region, the latest
forecasting tools continue to indicate that a significant winter
storm should affect the immediate area. At this time, snow is
expected to overspread the region from the west toward midday on
Saturday, and continue through Saturday night into Sunday. While
some uncertainty remains regarding the exact track and strength of
this storm, confidence that a winter storm this weekend will impact
our local area continues to increase.
If you have postponed winterizing your home or vehicle so far, now
would be the time to complete this task. Travel this weekend may
become increasingly difficult across the entire middle Atlantic
region as the storm spreads snow across the area.
The National Weather Service will continue to track this developing
winter storm and pass along the latest information as it becomes
available. Therefore, we urge you to keep up to date with the latest
forecasts and statements for updated information regarding this
winter storm potential.
