WIL: The only other one (global superpower) - USSR - in the last 50 years died by it's own hand.

BM: Ayuh, since the early 20th century, any economic system which attempts to sustain military expansion into sovereign countries will likewise fail, thus the urgent need to reconsider much of our foreign policy.

The British had to relinquish their control over a host of countries. The Nazis collapsed trying to occupy and control over a half dozen countries, while also invading still more.

The Soviets were able to control the Eastern Bloc for almost 40 years, thanks to their being in utter shambles following 1945.

Some think the U.S. can carry out their current foreign expansions and 'regime changes' without suffering a similar fate. I'm less than hopeful.

Above should have read:

The Soviets were able to control the Eastern Bloc for almost 40 years, thanks to their being in utter shambles following 1945, AND THEN COLLAPSED UNDER THE SHEER LOAD OF SUCH FOLLY. (emphasis added).

This is almost as sad as your criticism as a nitwit of people who correctly state that America has economic problems.

You're a fúcking embarrassment to America; it's idiots like you that people in other countries envisage when they speak of "ugly Americans."

Yea and maybe if you whip up enough of an emotional response amongst your followers you too can fly planes into buildings in the name of religion.

Hey asshole, you called USA system of education a failure, have you posted one single soitary thing other than your obnoxious opinion to support that?

Can you possibly support that given the facts that I have now posted twice above?

I happen to be married to a teacher, I am fairly certain I have a pretty fair understanding of WTF goes on in our public schools on a daily basis,

ANY PHUCKING TIME YOUR POMPOUs ASS CHOOSES TO BRING SOME MEAT TO THE TABLE, I WILL BE HERE.

TILL THEN

Every entity on earth has economic problems, kind of like every education system on earth has problems.

Sheer brilliance above on yours and the nitwit's part for sure,

who's economy you want instead of ours?

You have posted no facts ... how amusing to see a flame-baiter suggesting that anyone else should "bring some meat to the table."

But since I'm feeling sort of Jane Goodall-y let me attempt to communicate with you one last time, see if any dim light shines through, by asking a question actually relevant to the topic of the thread: do you not find it troubling that teachers -- not parents, not guidance counselors, but the actual people charged with educating the children in the Miami-Dade school system -- are protesting requirements that the children that they teach actually learn something before those children are allowed to pass? That was, after all, the point of the thread before you weighed in with your idiotic attacks and non sequiturs.

Are Americans any dumber or lousier educated than rest of the western world?
In Finland people believes that, but it seems like we are much more dumber.

A couple weeks ago, Finnish Gallub released a research: How many people knows a province where they live at.

In Finland we have 6 provinces and only 47% knew which of them they are living

Let's review:

1)Only super power left on earth

2)Dramatic advancements in the history of mankind
a)Genomics
b)Computers

These are facts.

This is not possible with a failure of the public education system, which is exactly what you posted.

1)It was biased standardized tests-corrected zero improvement

2)Then it was a resource equivalency problem where public schools in inner cities spent far less per pupil than in the suburbs-corrected inner city Philly schools now spend more per student than the surrounding suburbs-zero improvement.

The problems in our education system stem from public policy that encourages dumb people to have more offspring than smart people.

How do i know this? Because they have thrown money at every other feasible solution with zero results.

What does this have to do with the public education system in America, especially as would relate to its current status? America became a dominant superpower in the world a century ago after the Spanish-American War, a position solidified throughout the 20th century and which culminated when the collapse of the USSR left us as the big man on the block.

You actually did not mention either of these in the thread until now. And no high schoolers of whom I am aware were working on the Human Genome Project; nor were all of the researchers American.

I have argued in favour of the overall level of education in America, despite people like yourself making us look bad (see my thread "Ignorant American Pigs" which if I may say so is really quite good) But higher education and public schools where our children are languishing are two different things (and the public colleges and universities in this country are an entirely seperate issue as well, since they function under a seperate ideology from the lower schools.)

It is hilarious to see a person running from thread to thread bitching about Socialism who sits here and claims that Socialism is what has made this country great.

Just so you stop putting words into my mouth,

What makes America great is hard work and ingenuity.

It is why teaching kids to learn is infinitely more important than just teaching them material.

(in this very same thread no less!)

But this is a point on which we agree, because that is the very root of the problem with curriculae in American public schools -- they are based on rote memorisation, and they're getting easier despite the fact that there is undeniably more to learn.

I'll reiterate one more of the unanswered (or simply outright ignored) questions which I have asked you: : do you not find it troubling that teachers -- not parents, not guidance counselors, but the actual people charged with educating the children in the Miami-Dade school system -- are protesting requirements that the children that they teach actually learn something before those children are allowed to pass?

That was, again, the point of this thread before you fúcked it up by turning it into a circus sideshow.

teaching kids to learn is what leads to the awesome power of American ingenuity,

simple enough, I can forumlate my own thoughts, I do not need you shoving them into my mouth.
