They released them in Less than 24 Hours from capture. Thank G-d for the Diplomacy that Obama and Kerry established. With insane idiots that shared the World View of this clown, they'd still be in Custody, or far worse.

The fact that you would never bother to wonder why that did this in the 1st place, or the fact that they did it is a bad thing, is frightening.

You are seriously sick in the head. America will be a better place when you're gone, geezer.

the established narrative of the ships being in Iranian Waters.

You realize that the "established narrative" was set by the IRGC, right liar?

Now being reported: "US military has ruled out mechanical failure for both US Navy Riverine craft before Iranian IRGC seizure of 10 US Navy sailors, officials"

You are literally wrong about everything you type on this Web site. Every single thing.

I'm sure that's comforting to that poor, scared Sailor that some Clown on the Internet thinks Iranian Guards would not have dared shoot her. She should have resisted a big important thing like putting on a Head Wrap because of your thoughts. Talk about getting a grip. :ohno::ohno:

"U.S. officials said that the incident happened near Farsi Island in the middle of the Gulf. They said some type of mechanical trouble with one of the boats caused them to drift into Iranian territorial waters near the island, and they were picked up by Iran."

Because acting all tough, would always prevent incidents like this. :ohno: Ask Russia how well that went when their Planes were shot down and a pilot killed flying over Turkey, and those nations don't have the acrimony Iran and the US do. I don't care about posturing, and false bravado. If an insane leader like Trump, or Cruz were in charge, this would not have ended nearly as well, and I'm pretty sure you know that.

It did not end well. And maybe if the irrational Iranians discovered they couldn't always rely on American rationality they would not dare take Americans hostage. But right now they've committed kidnapping with impunity, which you've defined as "ending well." You will soon discover the ramifications of Obama again showing the world his ass. For our sake I hope the next president let's Iran know what happens when they mess with us.

So you actually think this insignificant, short incident, and some propaganda pictures, should lead to a full blown Nuclear War????? :ohno::ohno: Again, thank G-d we have level headed leadership.

I think we should bomb the clerics at their next high-level meeting. Speed up the regime change. And I think we should bomb some of the Iranian generals and troops fighting for Assad. That would at least deliver a message. Obama said nothing about how many American troops Iran has already killed.

Sorry, but when ships drift into enemy territory, and the result is that the sailors are released, unharmed, less than 24 hours later, it's the very definition of ending well. Since Your definition of ending well seems to be the nuking of Iran and starting WW3, because of this minor incident, I'll stick with how this ended, over your preference, with all due respect, and again I'll thank G-d for the rational leadership we have currently.

I'm sure we aren't privy to all the details of what happened, but I'm glad they were released. As far as the leadership of this country, it's been garbage for most of my life time.

But it is in Reuters so it is true!!!

Reuters was the first news organization to turn terrorists into 'militants'.

When Palestinian terrorists would murder Israelis for being Jews the headlines would read
"6 Israelis killed in spiral of violence in Middle East."

When Israel retailiated the Reuters headline would read,
"Israel Kills 6 Palestinians."

Not a big fan of Reuters, or the BBC.

Analysis: What Iran's 'Fast' Release of U.S. Sailors Tells Us

by CASSANDRA VINOGRAD

That was (relatively) quick.
Ten American sailors detained by Iran were released after a night in the Islamic republic's custody — a fast outcome following a frenzy of diplomacy but overall very little fuss.
There are at least two key takeaways from the quick resolution of what some feared could develop into an international incident. First, that both the Obama administration and Iranian government are keen to avoid jeopardizing a high-stakes nuclear deal agreed on last year.

US Sailors Detained by Iran Are 'Safely Returned' 1:43

"Clearly the United States and Iran now have a mutual interest in maintaining some kind of relationship that will keep this whole thing from being derailed," said Gary Sick, an Iran expert at Columbia University who formerly served on the National Security Council. "They have every reason in the world to avoid a crisis. Neither the United States government wants it nor Iran wants it."
News that the sailors had been seized prompted an almost-immediate response from Republicans that the incident proved the deal — aimed at curtailing Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for lifting crippling international sanctions — should be abandoned.
Higher up in the halls of power, there were signs that both Tehran and Washington wanted to tamp down the situation. That was partly to avoid an international incident, all-out war and protect a deal with benefits for both sides.
The Obama administration considers the nuclear deal a significant accomplishment and doesn't want anything to undermine it.
"THAT DOESN'T MEAN WE'RE NEVER GOING TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IRAN AGAIN BUT IT REALLY DOES INDICATE THAT SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED HERE""The U.S. most certainly does not need a confrontation with Iran right now even aside from protecting the nuclear deal," explained University of Maryland Professor and Brookings Institute senior fellow Shibley Telhami.
The Iranian government, meanwhile, wants to make sure it gets the billions of dollars in sanctions relief from a finalized nuclear deal.
As soon as the news broke, Secretary of State John Kerry put in a call to his Iranian counterpart. Iranian officials, after initially taking a hard stance, later publicly stressed the non-threatening nature of the incursion.
The situation could easily have turned into a crisis but "you've got to give them credit for handling it properly," Telhami said.
The whole episode bore similarities to an incident in 2007, albeit with a very different outcome.
Fifteen British servicemen were seized by Iranian forces in March of that year. They were held for 13 days — and released after a diplomatic crisis erupted.
By contrast, this week's incident was resolved in under 24 hours.
"That's about as fast as it gets, given the history of these things," Sick said.
He said that's a testament to how much things have changed between Iran and the U.S.
The fact that Kerry was able to pick up the phone and call his counterpart, Zarif -- five times over the course of the episode -- "sort of speaks for itself," Sick said. "That couldn't have happened two years ago. He wouldn't have known what number to call and there would've been huge suspicion on the other end."

Therein lies the second, equally-important lesson from the averted crisis.
Both countries were "on their best behavior" to protect the sanctity of the deal — and a new era in relations, Sick explained.
Two years of negotiations between Iran and the West bore not just a landmark deal but something else: a special relationship. U.S. and Iranian officials truly got to know each other, on a personal level, and grew comfortable speaking to each other.

Prior to the talks, American diplomats had no relationships with their counterparts in Tehran and mostly relied on other countries to relay messages.
"The ability to cut through all of that very quickly is something quite new," Sick said. "That doesn't mean we're never going to have a problem with Iran again but it really does indicate that something has happened here."
Proof of that change — and special relationship — was evident in the statements issued by Kerry and Zarif after the sailors were released.
Their wording was similar and both praised the importance of diplomacy in securing a positive outcome.
"I want to express my gratitude to Iranian authorities for their cooperation in swiftly resolving this matter," Kerry said following the sailors' release. "That this issue was resolved peacefully and efficiently is a testament to the critical role diplomacy plays."

"Happy to see dialog and respect, not threats and impetuousness, swiftly resolved the #sailors episode," tweeted Zarif. "Let's learn from this latest example."

Still, it's important not to overstate any warmth between the U.S. and Iran. When sailors in a broken boat can rattle nerves around the world, it's proof that sparks can still ignite a fire in a volatile region.

Fair enough. "Blow them off the map" was my visceral reaction. I still support the enslaved subjects of the Iranian regime. I'd target the leaders as I said in post #91, or I'd hit their troops in Syria, just once. I don't want these mullaffuckers dependent on our consistency; fuck them.

And I still disagree with you 100% on the Iran nuke deal. It's a farce by our dickeared president hoping to earn a legacy of something other than the failure his presidency represents.

The truth is the path to nuclear war has already been paved - by Obama. And you will see. The time will come when the US has only two options" Hit first and therefore last, or be hit...... And may you remain cancer free (This place is seriously sick).

I know you do, but we won't know the full results for over a decade. In the meantime, we have some diplomatic relationship with them, that we didn't have previously, and if it can diffuse situations like what happened today, that's a good thing for us, and the rest of the world.
Thanks, and may you remain sinus problem free and other health problems free also.
(It most assuredly is.)

Meanwhile, in Iran and at the UN, business as usual:

In letter to UN chief, Knesset Speaker Edelstein urges public condemnation of Iran`s plan to hold international Holocaust cartoon contest
In letter to UN chief, Knesset Speaker Edelstein urges public condemnation
of Iran`s plan to hold international Holocaust cartoon contest
Publicized: January 13, 2016
https://www.knesset.gov.il/spokesman/eng/PR_eng.asp?PRID=11880

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Knesset Speaker
Yuli-Yoel Edelstein expressed Israel`s outrage over Iran`s intent to hold
the International Holocaust Cartoon Contest for the third time in recent
years.

”There are no words strong enough to describe the contempt and profound
disdain of the State of Israel, of the Israeli people and many others the
world over, for Iran`s insistent Holocaust denial, continued under Rouhani`s
regime despite its false façade of tolerance toward the Iranian as well as
World Jewry,” Edelstein said in the letter, sent Wednesday morning.

”The current President of Iran does not differ from his notorious
predecessor, Ahmadinejad, and like him does not even attempt to conceal
Iran`s intent to eliminate the State of Israel. Iran`s resumed development
of nuclear capabilities that will allow it to fulfill this threat is further
proof of their ultimate goal.”

Edelstein further wrote to Secretary-General Ban that ”not only does a
member state of the UN consistently and overtly threaten to destroy another
member state, it does so merely 70 years after the dreadful Holocaust of the
Jewish people, during which we lost a third of our number to the murderous
Nazi machine. Moreover, Iran spares no effort in supporting terrorism across
the globe, particularly in the Middle East, in order to plunge the world
into chaos in the name of the Shiite Revolution.”

”As the head of an organization that in 2005 adopted the brave resolution to
establish January 27th as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, I ask
that you exert your moral authority through public condemnation of the
Iranian policy by addressing this matter directly with Iran as well,” the
Knesset speaker wrote.

Speaker Edelstein also sent a letter to all Knesset members urging a
consolidated effort on social media ahead of Holocaust Remembrance Day in
order to ”express Israel`s disgust” for the cartoon contest in Iran and
other displays of anti-Semitism around the world. He asked the Israeli
lawmakers to post on the social networks photos from the Holocaust with the
caption ”My Holocaust memory” and add a brief description of what Holocaust
Remembrance Day means to them.

Speaker Edelstein also instructed the relevant departments in the Knesset to
organize an exhibition of photos and posters relating to the commemoration
of the Holocaust. The exhibit will be launched at the Knesset on Holocaust
Remembrance Day.

”The days of `The Protocols of the Elders of Zion` and `Der Stürmer` are
over,” Edelstein said in the letter to the MKs. ”The Jewish nation and its
leadership must launch a counterattack to eliminate the bag of lies. We
mustn`t remain silent amid the growing anti-Semitism and the hateful and
venomous attitude towards the Jewish people. These days were are fighting
back will all the publicity, diplomatic and parliamentary tools at our
disposal in order to make it clear that we will not ignore nor accept racist
and despicable incitement.”
