Foster pulled up lame and grabbed the back of his leg on a 40-yard sprint to the end zone, the first play of an 11-on-11 scrimmage. Foster's left leg was was heavily wrapped as he watched the second practice. Coach Gary Kubiak is not worried about the injury "right now," but admits that could change. "I don't know, but he didn't feel good so I just said 'Get out,'" Kubiak said. "He went 35, 40 minutes (in practice) and looked great, so I'm hoping he'll be right back out here. We'll see."

Foster described the injury as a "tweaked hamstring" and insists he's not concerned. "Knee injuries are frightening," said Foster. "I think anytime you have a hamstring injury, you have to rest it. Hamstrings are part of the business." We feel much better about Foster after hearing this update. He's still a top-two fantasy pick.

Roughly three weeks away from Week 1, the Texans wouldn't have let him back on the field unless their team doctors were confident Foster won't aggravate the injury. The Rotoworld Draft Guide projects Foster to rush for 1,515 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He's our No. 1 back.

Kubiak did confirm Foster's latest hamstring injury is to the same leg (left) that cost him 11 days of camp earlier this month. "We don’t think it’s anything worse than what we were dealing with before," Kubiak insisted. "I’m just hoping... he’ll be ready for opening day." Kubiak did not list Foster as one of the Texans' biggest injury concerns after the game. It's a situation to monitor for a top-two fantasy pick, but ultimately not a big worry.

The injury is "not as bad as I thought it was," Foster said, and he was able to jog on the side of Monday's practice. Asked about playing in Week 1, Foster replied "That's the plan." Hamstring injuries tend to linger, but we'd still be very hard pressed to pass on Foster in the top-3 picks of a draft. "I'm on my mother's fantasy football team, so I gotta do good," Foster assured.

Just came across that Foster had an MRI today and has a torn Hamstring Muscle. Will miss week 1. Could take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to heal.

Just be sure to take this with a grain of salt. We never trust third-party medical opinions and are just relaying an opinion. "He's torn some of the muscle fibers, we'll call it Grade 1 to 2," said Kaplan. "There's a fair amount of swelling and bleeding on the MRI, so this is real. ... It's gonna be a couple weeks at least. If you get him back too soon, he's at a high risk of re-rupture. I think they're gonna go a little slow with him."

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>After speaking to Arian Foster and "just about everyone" about Foster's hamstring injury, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle predicts the running back will be ready for Week 1 against the Colts.
Whereas Foster was limping and icing the injury the first time he pulled the muscle, McClain says Foster is now able to walk and jog normally. ESPN medical analyst Dr. Michael Kaplan suggested earlier in the day that Foster had a slight tear, although Kaplan never studied Foster's hamstring up close. (He was going off a Twitter pic.) There's no way to tell whether Foster will be ready for Week 1 because setbacks are common with hamstring injuries, but McClain's assessment brings us back to square one: It's a day-to-day strain or pull, and Foster has not been ruled out for September 11.

McClain's position on Foster's injury has not changed in the last week. "No one knows for sure about it being an issue this season, but fantasy football owners should take him and not look back," he says. Although McClain's reports have not been confirmed by other outlets, his certainty on the issue speaks volumes. It sounds like Foster is set for full participation in practice this week.

Foster is more of a deep thinker than your average football player, so perhaps he's just being brutally honest. Typically, we don't like to hear any doubt from players nursing day-to-day injuries. "I ran pretty well on it today," Foster did say. "As close to full speed as you can get without going full speed." Foster is headed for a questionable tag. The Texans are hoping he can practice later in the week, but are prepared to play without him.

"Everything's still progressing," said Kubiak, "but obviously we're getting close to game time. We'll see where he's at tomorrow." Foster sat out practice again Thursday. Kukiak will have a better idea on his feature back's status if he can return Friday or work "pretty hard Saturday morning." If Foster does miss the opener, Derrick Ward will start at running back with Ben Tate seeing plenty of carries in obvious run situations.

Highly talented Ben Tate will get his chance too, rotating in on early downs while Steve Slaton gets some third-down reps.
