I would like to comment on the buy and hold theory. As mentioned here before have been a broker for 20+ years. My goal has always been to buy big cap stocks for trades and buy mutual funds midcap and small cap for buy and hold. It is difficult to get information on the small guys so I let the funds do their work and their returns over time have been terrific. Mid-cap value has been the best historically.
I know many would rather buy 300 shares of an $8.00 stock than 100 shares of a $24.00 stock but you have to take the heavy speculation out and let the solid companies do there work.
Its hard sometimes when your young to say oh I bought a stock at 24 and sold it at 30 as its not a lot of money but if you can kep reapeating that your dollars will grow and when you get a little older as we all do the buy and holders usually are o.k.
An exampleVLO volero was 22 3 years ago is now 67.
So if your going to be an investor not a speculator or trader put 80% in solid things and use the other to speculate if you must. Its not like betting baseball. best to all. heart222
