Have had them off and on for 4 years. I also was told I had too much calcium. Passed the stone before they could catch it and identify it, which helps greatly. Was told to drink lots of water, lay off acidy foods, caffeine, drink 96oz of water daily, and an added secret--take 1000mg of magnesium per day for life. This last thing was told to me by a vitamin specialist who also had them and hasn't had a problem in over 20 years. Once in awhile, I'll get a "twinge", so I start downing the water like no tomorrow. Usually does the trick. I drink approx 50-96 oz per day, harder in winter time. I feel for anybody who's had to go thru this type of pain. None like it.:sad3:

It also limits taking certain vitamin supplements, like calcium, vit C, as they aggravate the problem. Needless to say, suseptible to more colds, etc. Would rather have a cold than that pain.:monsters-

im in the kidney stone club as well and it sucks. had quite a few in college and could not pass any on my own. I was in so much pain one time, i was vomiting and rolling around in it. Not fun.

The first 2 times they would send the basket up to catch it. Also had the sonic blast. they put a shunt in me too. problem is when they took it out they go thru the penis. I was up in stirrups like a girl at OBGYN. they used numbing jelly and a steel rod. I literally passed out after. On my way home, blood was just pouring out of the area. not good.

Kidney Stones run in my family. Mine is calcium although my brothers are caused by uric acid build up (he can pass em without surgeries). I decided if it was from too much calcium, i was going to give up dairy. Been dairy free for about 14 years now. Had one minor kidney stone since and passed it on my own with only minor discomfort.

I too get those "twinges" everyone once in awhile. Start pounding the water and cranberry then. The urologist told me my urine should always be clear looking. If its yellow, time to drink a lot of water. I drink about 4 liters a day.

I had Gallstones about a year ago, that was pretty terrible, and the only real recourse is surgery, i felt much better once they got the gallbladder out, though i have had diarrhea off and on for the better part of the last year, fixing that with daily fiber tabs which are actually pretty good for a morning snack, benefiber...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

My brother-in-law has Kidney stones right now, and has been suffering for a few days on and off, its his 2nd bout in 2 years too, says he was crying like a little girl, puked too.

MY GIRLFRIEND HAD HER GALLBLADDER OUT ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO AND STILL SUFFERS FROM THE DIARRHEA AT TIMES. WHAT ARE YOU TAKING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM?

Finally got rid of the kidney stone.

Ist attempt at shoving the stone (8.2 mm) back into the kidney - failed - stuck in the wall.

2nd attempt was a sonic blast - blasted the stone into three large pieces.
Two were lodged between the stint and the wall of the ureter. About half the stone was still stuck in the kidney wall.

3rd attempt was a laser gun. Threaded (humph) above the stones and blasted down towards the bladder. Also removed the old stint and put a new one in. This stint had a cord attached that extended through the penis about five inches.

Spent the next two days drinking at least a gallon of water per day. No pain - no blood - nothing passed through.

A week later back to the doctor. A scan showed nothing left in the system.
Doc took hold of the string attached to the stint and in 1 second pulled it though the penis - no pain.

Just did the 24 "collect all the pee" for analysis.

I feel for anyone that has those damn things. I have felt no other pain like it. My Dr. advised me to drink plenty of water with pure lemon juce in it. He told me the acid in the lemon juice would help keep them disolved. As far as pain medication, demmirol (probably spelled it wrong) is the only thing that eased the pain for me. My pain was so severe, it caused my blood pressure to drop to dangerous levels.

I had them two years ago and it was a nightmare. My girlfriend left at 8 pm for her nigtshift in the hospital. We had just one car and she had to take it. So I was alone with my 1.5 years old son. The pain started at around 8.30 pm but i did not know what it was from. So i went to bed at 9 pm and my son slept in our bed, too. At around 9.15 the pain was so bad that I went out of the house and laid down in the grass. I felt like i would die. I started praying that nothing bad will happen because I was alone at home with my son. At around 00.30 I could not stand the pain anymore. So I woke up my son and we had to walk around 2.5 miles to see a doctor. It felt like it took hours. We had to walk through the station with some steps going downwards. My son was sitting in his buggy when we walked down the steps because i had no power to take him out of the buggy. With two steps left I started struggling and my son and me felt down the last steps. Thanks god he did not get hurt. He was a brave kid at that moment. Around 30 minutes later we arrived at the doctor and i laid down on 3 chairs. Everybody had a look at me because i must have looked like i was already dead. My son seemed to be very afraid of my condition despite the fact he was just 1.5 years. After the treatmend the doctor gave me some suppositories which killed the pain for around 2 hours every time i took them. The way back to the house was without pain and my son enjoyed walking through the night (seemed so).
The next day I saw another doctor and he gave me some pills. After around 4 days everything was ok again. I want to assure everyone that kidney stones are maybe the worst pain you will feel in your whole life.

I dont see how this thread made you look like a drug head at all. you are simply talking about a medical condition.

You've had your gallbladder taken out. I'm struggling with that now. If i feel bad today i'll be seeing the doc again. I've had two sonograms...negative and a PIPID scan...negative... but still have pain. Thought i was going to hurl last nite. This sucks.
