I spent 6 hours yesterday laying in the ER getting shot after shot(7) of morphene. I was down for the count. Does anyone here know of any drug that will stop this pain? Ive had these things off and on for 15 years. This attack though was by far the worst. They did a cat scan and I had one 7ML stone in left ureter (not sure how to spell ureter) The doc said a 7 ML stone is a monster.

caffeine is my problem. I drink more diet cokes than any man alive. 12 a day minimum. I got to stop that ****. Morphene does work for about an hour. Then it starts all over again. Today Ive had about 20 percosets.

It's my understanding that you don't feel much pain on PCP, but you might find yourself chasing buses and cars down the street naked. At least thats what someone told me.

Had them 3x in last 5 years. Nothing but the shots can help the pain. I was in tears. I would be hard pressed to wish them on an enemy. They are worse than any beating, broken bone, or cut I have ever had.

Do we all get these kidney stones? My father told me it was the worst pain he ever had and thought he was dying (literally thought he was dying) What causes this and how can it be prevented?

korn...here is what i know:

1) they are hereditary. if your dad got them...good chance you will at some point.

2) they affect mostly men (although women can get them) between the ages of 30-45.

3) the best way to prevent them is to stay away from caffeine and soda. drink plenty of water.

i had one and it was bad. afterwards, i switched to water. my doc told me that others had tried to form after the first one but the large amounts of water i drank "washed it away". he got this info from follow up urine samples.

it'll scare you straight.

thanks blue. I drink almost a gallon of water a day and have like 10 sodas a year, so maybe I won't get them. This thread is scaring the shiit out of me. Was just checking out a site on kidney stones and it said that they can be more painful than childberth or a gunshot wound. Don't know how they decided that but, still.....:monsters-

bigger pain coming out... I'm 19 and I've had them 4 times, sticking to the diet that the doctor suggests. Can't even take vitamins for the most part. Lots of water and laying your side on a heating pad works well to quell the pain when the drugs are worn off... I'm more or less used to them by now, as they have been about an every 6-8 month occurance for me since 17. Dad didn't have them, but his dad did quite often. And the largest stone I had was also 7 mLs... you'll sleep well after it passes. But in all seriousness, catch the stone and bring it back to your doctor. They'll be able to tell you whether or not it's something you're eating or drinking, or whether it's heriditary.

Hope you're feeling better soon. I've had mono, the chicken pox, and 4 cases of stones in the last 5 years and the stones were far and away the worst of the three.

Had them twice every 8 years. Was told I had too much calcium. Drink lots of water the doctor told me but all my life I would average about 1 glass a week. Recently the 8th year came up again.......did ultrasound and no stone.....that's because I've started to drink more water.......like 1 glass a day now (maybe). Still won't learn especially after those unbelievable wicked pains. Blood would come out when I urinated because my stones were shape like crystles.

The last stone came at the most unfortunate time the next day right after I got married. The honeymoon was 3 days after the wedding day so the doctor gave me 2 options......blast it to pieces with laser by sticking a tube up my penis or give me a powerful pain killer to take with me on my honeymoon. No brainer on that one.....of course the pain killer. Throughout the 3 weeks every time I felt it I had to pop one in and everything was good but mostly every time I urinated blood would be coming out also. Finally it past on it's own through urination. It was so lumpy and coarse......that's why i had so much blood because every time the stone moved it would be cutting the walls.

They say it's worst than child birth.

Got one now.

Too big to pass and "stuck" just outside the kidney.

Ist attempt to move it with a probe (don't think about it) failed.

Next week we try the sonic blast but the doc gives little hope as there is very little liquid around the stone.

He put a in a shunt from the kidney to the bladder and all the pain has stopped.

I used to drink a lot of coffee but cut down to about 10 cups per day now.

Watch out for the sonic blast!!!!

Since your stone in the ureter is so close to the kidney, what can happen is that pieces of the stone, after blasting, can end up in the kidney, and then you have NO recourse at all. When its in the ureter, you can try different things, but stones in the kidney cavity are going to stay there forever.

I had Gallstones about a year ago, that was pretty terrible, and the only real recourse is surgery, i felt much better once they got the gallbladder out, though i have had diarrhea off and on for the better part of the last year, fixing that with daily fiber tabs which are actually pretty good for a morning snack, benefiber...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

My brother-in-law has Kidney stones right now, and has been suffering for a few days on and off, its his 2nd bout in 2 years too, says he was crying like a little girl, puked too.
