I asked this in another thread and got no reply. I need a good wine to go with Shrimp Alfredo and could use one for Prime Rib. I have been trying many different ones and have not really found one I like. I dont mind spending some money on a good wine, but I dont like going in blind.

Thanks, I will give it a try. I just hate making a girl a nice dinner and then offering a Vodka and Cranberry. I feel I need to have a good wine to acompany the dinner.

Can't we ALL just get along?!!

Agree with Yellowtail ace...it's pretty inexpensive but my wife loves it (there is at least one bottle in our house all the time).

If you're fixing prime rib, I would drink just plain ol' vodka and cranberry if you let me come eat with you!!! tulsa

I did a quick research with Google and found that cabernet sauvignon is recommended with prime rib. Now, as to the maker and year....I wouldn't have a clue, but it is recommended that with cabernet sauvignon you get an older wine that has had a chance for the tannins to become more mild. tulsa

Yellowtail is decent...also like the "the little penguin" Merlot....somewhat similar to yellowtail. Yellowtail has a merlot and Shiraz...the Shiraz is most popular but I prefer the Merlot.

If you want a better wine, try any of the D'arenberg vineyards wines (Australian). They range from $20 upwards but they are very good. "Penfold's Koonunga Hill Shiraz/Cabernet" is another great choice with red meat. Brutus is correct about Greg Norman....very good wine.

Many wines to choose from, I would recommend trying something a little higher end than Yellowtail if you don't mind shelling out a few extra bucks.

For the future Saint Emillion has great wines for the conoseur or the novice like me. A good acceptable bottle of Cabernet can run you $35.

Love G-Money's suggestions...

If you want to bump it up a notch try the 1969 Le Montrachet Chateau Poligny for the Shrimp prbably around $250 for the Cow I would suggest a Lafite Rothschild or maybe an early '90's Opus one.

Ace, if you want to learn somthing or just want a pairing for a future meal goto AboutWines.com it's THE best wine web site on the net.

The best rule of thumb reds with red meats... Whites with similiar, veal, fish etc...

The cheapests wine beats the more expensive wines in taste many many times...

If your lady likes sweet wines(dessert) try a Ice wine, there are many out there, just expierment...

I could bore you to death about wines, I had a very intense 11 week course while attending culinary school; was hard as hell but 1 of my favprite classes..
