the media is there solely to increase advertising revenue and racism is a hot-button item for them. there is so little systematic racism in America that they must twist every event into a racist one with the intention of garnering more "clicks", "likes", "follows", and "shares" that they can take as data to new and existing sponsors to drive more revenue. Most, ahemm, journalists have a component to their bonus payments attached to social media so the more outlandish or controversial the story, likely the more social media activity they can stir.
this is all money-motivated and drives a deeper wedge between the races that had been closing slowly for the past 100 years. they don't know and don't care about the long-term ramifications of their systematic race baiting
